About 2019 Cadillac ATS Coupe
The Cadillac ATS sedan arrived in 2013, with the coupe following in 2015. Together, the two body styles challenged mainstays like the Audi A4 and A5, the BMW 3 and 4 Series, and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Cadillac has made minor changes to the ATS line since its introduction. 2019 brings the biggest change yet: the discontinuation of the sedan body style. This leaves only the ATS Coupe. A 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine moves base ATS Coupe models. It makes 272 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy ratings stand at 22 miles per gallon city, 30 highway, and 25 combined. Buyers looking for more “oomph” can upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine. It puts out 335 hp and 285 lb-ft. The Base ATS Coupe gets 19 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined. Both engines feature start/stop technology, which switches off the engine at stops to maximize fuel economy. The smaller turbocharged engine requires premium fuel, while the larger can manage regular. With either engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission comes standard. Drivers can choose between standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) or optional all-wheel drive (AWD). Cadillac offers optional equipment to increase handling prowess, like magnetically-controlled shocks, a limited-slip differential, performance suspension, and driver-selectable modes. Four grades comprise the ATS Coupe lineup: Base, Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Premium Performance. The Base trim comes with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, 18-inch wheels, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, 4G LTE hotspot capability, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition, satellite radio, USB connectivity, leatherette upholstery, 6-way power driver’s seats, a split-folding rear seat, a 5.7-inch instrument cluster LCD, keyless access and start, and LED interior lighting. For 2019, the standard wireless charging is now compatible with the latest phones, such as the Apple iPhone X series. The Luxury trim adds adaptive HID headlights with LED light signatures, leather upholstery, a 12-way power driver’s seat, memory settings, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start, auto-dimming mirrors, a navigation system, a garage door opener, and premium 18-inch wheels. The Premium Luxury trim gets the bigger 3.6-liter engine and adds illuminating door handles, a sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, and polished 18-inch wheels. The Premium Performance trim is RWD only. It comes with the 3.6-liter engine, 18-inch machined alloy wheels, a full-color head-up display, performance and handling upgrades, a mechanical limited-slip differential, high-capacity engine cooling, and a power tilt and telescoping steering column. The ATS Coupe focuses on safety as much as it does on looks and performance. Every model gets a standard reversing camera and Teen Driver, an in-car program which allows parents to monitor their teenagers’ driving habits and set limitations on the car. Optional features include forward-collision alert, a following-distance indicator, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change alert, adaptive cruise control, and a safety-alert seat that vibrates to alert the driver of a potential crash. No major agency has tested the ATS Coupe. Cadillac’s decision to wind down ATS production led to the elimination of the sedan body style for 2019. The ATS Coupe is soon to follow. The brand has not officially announced what, if anything, will replace its sole coupe. So 2019 might be the time to grab one before it’s gone for good.
