Summary
With 446 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,568, 30.9% of 2018 Toyota Priuses for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Toyota Prius 4.5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota Prius stands out as a practical hybrid that built its reputation on fuel efficiency and reliability. By this generation, Toyota had already sharpened the Prius formula with a stiffer body structure, upgraded suspension, and a more aerodynamic shape, all aimed at improving handling, ride comfort, and fuel economy. The result is a car that feels engineered around efficiency without giving up everyday usability.
Inside, the 2018 Toyota Prius benefits from a better-finished cabin than earlier versions, along with newer tech and comfortable front seats. Most examples include a touchscreen infotainment system and a rear-view camera, and safety equipment such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist helps broaden its appeal. Buyers looking at higher-spec versions can also find a premium sound system and a larger touchscreen. The Prius’s reputation for durability remains a major draw, and its hybrid setup is especially effective around town.
There are trade-offs, though. Some models lack power, and hybrid components can raise repair costs. Even so, the 2018 Toyota Prius remains appealing for shoppers who want a dependable used car with strong fuel economy, a distinctive design, and a long-standing reputation for doing exactly what a hybrid should do well.

Just the car we were looking for. Right color and right features. Age and condition were good. Dealer had replaced the tires and serviced the brakes. Price was fair. Only negative was high mileage.

It’s a hybrid, great gas mileage. Super comfortable, touring package, low mileage.. Great value when compared to a new model. Just wish the hatchback could be unlocked from the interior.

Is the 2018 Toyota Prius a good car?
Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. The 2018 Toyota Prius stands out as a practical hybrid built around fuel efficiency and reliability, with a stiffer body structure, upgraded suspension, and a more aerodynamic shape that help support everyday usability. Inside, you get a better-finished cabin than earlier versions, newer tech, and comfortable front seats, while the hybrid setup is especially effective around town.
That combination makes it a sensible fit if you want a dependable used car with strong fuel economy and a long-standing reputation for doing exactly what a hybrid should do well. 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Toyota Prius reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2018 Toyota Prius draws its reliability appeal from Toyota’s reputation for durability and from a hybrid setup that is especially effective in everyday driving. The overview also points to a car engineered for efficiency without sacrificing usability, which is the kind of balance many used buyers want in a long-term commuter.
For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that hybrid components can raise repair costs, so condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota Prius?
At 58.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
Start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you go any further. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention on the hybrid system, brakes, suspension, and any signs of uneven wear or past body repair. You should also focus on overall condition, since repair costs can rise if a used hybrid has been neglected.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota Prius?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 452 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,153, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Toyota Prius's resale value?
The current average of $17,633 sits slightly below last year's $17,746.
That small decline suggests the market has stayed relatively stable, which can help you if you buy at the right price and later decide to sell. A steady price pattern also means you are less likely to face a sharp drop in value over a short ownership period. For a future seller, that kind of consistency is usually a positive sign because it points to predictable demand.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $19,996, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $17,633 average.
- It adds an electric all-wheel-drive option and broadens the Prius’s appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2018 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with steady pricing and solid owner satisfaction. If you are willing to pay more for the newer year and want the added all-wheel-drive option, the 2019 is the better secondary path.
