CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Subaru Crosstrek
overall

Summary
With 1,833 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,179, 32.4% of 2018 Subaru Crosstreks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek 4.2 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
65.6% of 2018 Crosstrek models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek stands out by turning the usual crossover formula around. Rather than relying on style alone, it backs up its outdoorsy image with versatility and capability. Built from the Impreza 5-door, it adds rugged body cladding and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, giving it a more durable, high-riding character than many small crossovers.
That focus on practicality is a big part of its appeal. Subaru’s approach emphasizes safety and efficiency, and the Crosstrek fits that philosophy while still feeling genuinely suited to active use. It is also the first full redesign for the model, which means it represents an evolution of the original idea rather than a complete departure from it.
Buyers drawn to the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek are likely to appreciate its solid feel, safety features, and smooth driving experience. At the same time, some owners note that the engine can feel underpowered and that the vehicle may seem overpriced compared with other options in its class.

The over all experience of the vehicle was great I was able to try it out for a week while my wrx was in the shop. All the leading edge features that one could ask for, all accessible from the steering wheel. The lane correction feature was interesting great for those tiresome late night drives or after a hard days work. You can turn it off and on anytime. One day I will splurge for a model like this.

I believe the car is overpriced and , in my opinion, not a great value. It is, however a nice car and popular in the Pensacola area.

I love it! I got the limited with every option. It is so solid and safe! It is a great height and drives smooth. The eyesight system is amazing! I looked at the outback too, but didnt absolutely need the extra length. This car is like an outback lite, and it was perfect for me.

A quality, dependable car but the 2.0 liter is very underpowered. If youre okay with a car that doesnt have much pep, it will work for you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?
At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of prior damage so you can separate a clean, well-kept Crosstrek from one that may have been used hard.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, manual seats, power windows, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench, and the 6.5-inch StarLink infotainment system, while the Premium adds fog lights, heated front seats, a windshield-wiper deicer, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats with orange stitching, auto on/off headlights, and a six-speaker stereo. The Limited adds leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch StarLink screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
- Powertrain: The Crosstrek uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT and all-weather symmetrical all-wheel drive. The manual is standard on Base and Premium, while the CVT is standard on Limited and available on the lower trims.
- Safety package: EyeSight is the named safety suite, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Standard safety equipment also includes front and side impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control. Automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are available.
- Infotainment: Base and Premium trims use a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while the Limited gets an 8-inch screen. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the interface includes shortcut customization for frequently used functions.

Which 2018 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?
The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: Base, Premium, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Crosstrek’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You get the rugged look, roof rails, and the essentials, but it’s the most stripped-down version, so it makes the most sense if you’re prioritizing budget over comfort features.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades that make daily use easier, including heated front seats, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a better stereo. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
- Limited: This is the right pick if you want the most upscale version of the Crosstrek, with leather seats, automatic climate control, the larger 8-inch screen, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED steering-responsive headlights. It also gets the standard CVT and the most complete equipment list.
EyeSight is available on the Crosstrek, and the safety content also notes additional options such as blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert and reverse automatic braking.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,869 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,475, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?
The current average of $16,114 sits slightly below last year's $16,899.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may limit upside if you’re thinking about future resale. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek safe?
The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns strong safety marks from both experts and owners, and it comes standard with a broad set of airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. You can also get automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking.
Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 model is the first full redesign for the Crosstrek, and the expert summary highlights its durable, versatile, high-riding character.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Crosstrek with strong safety, good owner satisfaction, and a market that has softened a bit, the 2018 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it carefully against nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
