Is the 2018 RAM 2500 a good car?

Yes — the 2018 RAM 2500 earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Is the 2018 RAM 2500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as reliable and dependable, and the feedback also points to trouble-free ownership for many drivers. The strongest praise centers on long-term confidence in the truck’s powertrain and towing ability, especially from buyers who count on the Cummins engine for heavy use. For used buyers, that suggests the bigger ownership risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about how well a specific truck was maintained and used.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 RAM 2500?

At 66.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean trucks from those with collision records. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on trucks that have been used for towing or hard work. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear, and whether the truck’s equipment and body show evidence of heavy-duty use.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 RAM 2500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,541 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,421, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 RAM 2500's resale value?

The current average of $31,421 sits slightly below last year's $34,006.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make resale a little less favorable than it was a year ago. If you buy now, you may want to focus on trucks with strong condition, clean history, and desirable equipment so they hold appeal later. A well-kept example should still benefit from steady demand among buyers who want heavy-duty capability without giving up comfort.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 RAM 2500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $30,120, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $31,421 average.
• It offers a broad, comfort-focused heavy-duty setup with strong owner praise.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-year market position and a well-liked heavy-duty truck, the 2018 is the better primary target. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core Ram 2500 appeal.
