What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?

At 51.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, tires, brakes, and interior wear. Because accident history is common enough to matter here, you’ll want to focus on whether any prior damage was repaired cleanly and whether the car still drives and tracks straight. If possible, get a pre-purchase inspection so you can confirm the car’s condition before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Sport trim includes LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera, while the Touring trim adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats, driver power, faux leather, rear USB charging ports, and rear vents. If you want the most upscale feel, the Signature trim adds a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, and real wood trim.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter engine makes 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque and returns 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg for 29 combined. The turbocharged 2.5-liter engine makes 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque and returns 23 city, 31 highway, and 26 combined mpg.
• Safety package: The base Sport trim includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist.
• Infotainment: The Mazda Connect system uses a rotary controller, and the touchscreen does not respond to touch unless the vehicle is in park. Every Mazda6 gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay starting in December, and the available head-up display adds real-time traffic sign recognition and turn-by-turn guidance.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg for 29 combined. The turbocharged engine returns 23 city, 31 highway, and 26 combined mpg.

Which 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong value story with LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. It’s the trim to choose if you want the lowest price and the core safety equipment without paying for extras.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats, driver power, faux leather, rear USB charging ports, and rear vents. It feels like the point where the car starts to deliver the upscale experience the Mazda6 is aiming for.
• Grand Touring: This trim brings the turbocharged engine, upgraded infotainment, an 11-speaker stereo, navigation, and satellite radio. Choose it if you want the stronger powertrain and more premium tech.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This trim adds a heated steering wheel, memory settings for the driver, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive front LEDs, and a head-up display. It suits you if comfort and convenience matter more than keeping the price down.
• Signature: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, and real wood trim. Buy this if you want the most upscale Mazda6 experience.

The safety package is strongest when you add the available i-Activesense bundle on lower trims, while the base Sport already includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to make shopping worthwhile if you compare carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 407 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.32% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,794, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?

The current average of $16,120 sits slightly below last year's $16,848.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you can help protect your future value. The model’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should also support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?

The Mazda6 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover and front passenger side tests, which earned four-star ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The base Sport trim comes standard with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera. If you want the full suite of safety systems, the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. One caveat is that braking performance is not class-leading, so you should pay close attention to tire condition and overall maintenance on any used example.

Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s slight redesign, new Signature trim, and turbocharged 2.5-liter engine make this year especially appealing if you want the model’s more upscale direction.

The bottom line: The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is the year to target if you want the strongest blend of value, style, and premium feel in this generation. If you’re price-sensitive, you can still shop confidently, but focus on the best-maintained examples and compare trims carefully so you get the equipment you actually want.
