About 2018 Maserati GranTurismo
Since its inception in 2007, Maserati has done little to change the GranTurismo’s striking design. For 2018, however, Maserati restyles one of the most significant features of any car: the nose. An aerodynamic rounded hexagon replaces the oval grille. Otherwise, the GranTurismo remains essentially the same; although, there are other minor updates including a new infotainment system, reversing camera, and an updated analog clock. The Harmon-Kardon stereo is now standard across the range. The GranTurismo is available as a coupe or convertible (called the GranCabrio in other markets). A high-performance MC model is also available and is visually distinguished by its carbon fiber hood with prominent scoop and 20-inch alloy wheels. The base model starts at just over $133,000; pricing for an MC convertible starts at $151,000. As most performance cars move toward smaller displacement and turbochargers, the GranTurismo retains its large, naturally aspirated Ferrari-built 4.7-liter 8-cylinder. It may be an older powertrain, but it makes 454 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. It revs to 7500 rpm, which, with Maserati’s factory exhaust setup, sounds absolutely glorious. Only a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters and rear-wheel drive (RWD) are offered. Fuel economy, as expected for a heavy performance car, is lacking. The GranTurismo is rated at 13 mpg city, 21 highway, and 16 combined for the coupe;the figures drop to 13, 20, and 15 for the convertible model. The GranTurismo comes standard with Brembo brakes and sticky Pirelli P Zero tires, but at 4,300 pounds, its more grand tourer than sports car. The MC model gets closer to track-ready with features like firmer suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and larger wheels. Like many expensive European cars, the Maserati GranTurismo is highly configurable to suit an individual’s tastes. The interior boasts high-quality leather and seats that are well bolstered. Trunk space is limited, especially on the convertible when the top is down. The Maserati GranTurismo offers an unquantifiable Italian flair. It is one of the most exciting, attractive, and sporty models in the company’s lineup.
