Land Rover launched the Range Rover Sport back in 2004. Since its debut, it has become the best-selling model for the brand. For 2018, Land Rover is making a number of changes to keep the Sport as its best seller. Changes to the exterior are minor with a new grille design, LED headlights, and a more aggressive design to the front bumper. Moving inside, Land Rover has swapped the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system for the new Touch Pro Duo system. The Touch Pro Duo uses two 10-inch touchscreens to control many of the vehicle’s functions. The top screen handles audio and navigation, while the bottom one is for climate and off-road settings. To keep passengers occupied, the Sport offers up to 14 power points to keep mobile devices charged, along with 4G LTE with Wi-Fi. Other interior changes include slimmer front seats, a cabin air ionization system, and a moonroof sunshade that can be controlled by waving your hand in front of the rear-view mirror. Not much has changed with the Sport’s powertrain lineup. The base is still a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 offering up either 340 or 380 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Next is the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 254 hp and 442 lb-ft. Those wanting more power need to step up to the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that seen horsepower rise from 510 to 518. Torque remains a potent 461 lb-ft. Topping the powertrain lineup is the Range Rover SVR with a 575-horsepower supercharged 5.0-liter V8. All engines come paired with an 8-speed automatic and 4-wheel drive with Land Rover’s Terrain Response System. Land Rover has announced a new plug-in hybrid that promises an electric-only range of 31 miles will be available later this summer. The Sport SVR gets its own set of changes for 2018. It begins outside with a new bumper that has larger vents to provide better cooling for the brakes. A new carbon fiber helps cut down on weight and can be optioned to feature an exposed weave on the center section. Various changes to the suspension are said to improve overall body control. Standard safety features for the Sport include a full set of airbags, traction and stability control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, and a speed limiter. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and park assist.
