What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi Q5?

At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and any signs of inconsistent panel gaps, warning lights, or drivability issues.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige are the standard trims, and the base setup already includes AWD, leather seats, real wood trim, a 3-zone climate control system, and important safety features. Prestige adds the most equipment, while Premium Plus sits in the middle with more convenience and safety tech.
• Powertrain: The Q5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 252 horsepower, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive. It also includes a drive mode system with five settings, including an off-road mode.
• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense is standard and includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking. The Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist. Premium Plus models also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models. The Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system is standard on Prestige and optional on other versions, and Audi Virtual Cockpit is standard on Prestige and optional on Premium Plus. A 12.3-inch digital display and full-color head-up display are part of the higher-spec setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The review notes an EPA estimate of 25 mpg in combined city and highway driving, and the test vehicle returned 21.3 mpg in real-world use.

Which 2018 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the value play if you want the redesigned Q5’s core strengths without paying for extra luxury and driver-assistance features. It already gives you AWD, leather seats, real wood trim, three-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Audi Pre-Sense.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds meaningful convenience and safety upgrades, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist. It also opens the door to more premium tech options.
• Prestige: This is the trim to choose if you want the most complete version of the Q5, with standard MMI Touch, Audi Virtual Cockpit, a head-up display, and the Driver Assistance Package. It’s the most feature-rich choice, but you’ll pay for that extra equipment.

The safety package is exclusive to Prestige, while Audi Pre-Sense remains standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Audi Q5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,745 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.93% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,473, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $15,474 sits slightly below last year's $17,179.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Q5’s value is being shaped by softer pricing rather than scarcity, so condition and equipment will matter a lot.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2018 Audi Q5 earns top marks for moderate overlap frontal impact and side impact protection from IIHS, but a Marginal rating for the headlight performance of certain versions of the vehicle.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models and includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking. The Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist. Premium Plus models also add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist.

The headlight result is the main caveat to keep in mind, so if safety is a priority, you should pay close attention to the exact equipment on the listing you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned model brings the latest technology, improved performance and driving dynamics, more interior room, and greater overall sophistication.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Q5 with strong owner satisfaction, solid safety, and a market that has softened enough to create buying opportunities, the 2018 is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on well-kept listings near the low end of the range and prioritize condition, equipment, and history over trim prestige.

How does the 2018 Audi Q5 compare to the 2018 BMW X3?

Our experts score the 2018 Audi Q5 7.8/10 and the 2018 BMW X3 7.7/10.

The Q5 has the edge in expert score, average used price, and deal share, while the X3 is pricier but slightly stronger on highway MPG. You’re also looking at very similar accident-free shares, so condition and equipment should matter more than the small score gap. If you want the better value proposition, the Q5 is the more compelling pick; if you’re willing to pay more for a slightly different balance of efficiency and pricing, the X3 remains close.
