Overview
FAQs
The Rapide line soldiers on as Aston Martin’s resident people-shuttle. Its four doors and four full seats envelop occupants in a world of luxury without sacrificing any of the performance attributes the brand is known for. The sleek coupe-like shape has a prominent single-piece grille at the front. The top and sides are full of clean lines that flow into each other. No element is out of place, getting it as close to the purity of the two-door models as possible.
The interior is similarly elegant with shiny surfaces and glass. The push-button gear selector, slot for the Aston Martin crystal key, and fold-away navigation screen sit well within reach on the center stack. The stack flows into a console that stretches to the rear of the cabin, providing the backseat passengers with all the same functionality while hiding the transmission that sits between the two rear seats.
For 2018, there’s a single variant, the Rapide S. Historically, the S moniker has been reserved for high-performance Aston Martins, and it shows. There’s a 6-liter 12-cylinder on offer with 532 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, along with a performance 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The Rapide S can hit 60 mph in as little as 4.2 seconds and runs all the way to 203 mph.
However, the interior is notably short on tech. Unlike the competition, the technology stack is dated. But, the Rapide is more about presentation and prestige than toys. Standard features include a hand-built leather interior, 20-inch wheels, adjustable dampers, bi-xenon headlights, quad-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, heated front and rear seats, and USB connectivity. From there, Aston Martin’s offers a number of high-dollar accessories like a carbon-fiber engine cover, a numbered Le Mans luggage set, and a leather storage saddle.
For safety, the Rapide has airbags for all occupants and parking sensors on both the front and rear bumpers. A reversing camera is available as a retrofittable kit, but advanced features like adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, or blind-spot monitoring are unavailable.
The 2018 Aston Martin Rapide is a unique offering on the marketplace. It’s probably the closest to a true four-door coupe. The Rapide honors the brand’s values as well as any of its other cars while providing full space for four. Pricing starts at $203,950.
