Is the 2017 Subaru WRX a good car?

Yes — the 4.7/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. For you, that means the WRX fits especially well if you want a practical sport compact that still feels fun and capable in poor weather. Is the 2017 Subaru WRX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to enthusiasts, especially when it comes to all-wheel-drive confidence and everyday usability. That said, used buyers should still plan for long-term ownership risk by checking maintenance history and confirming the car has been cared for consistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Subaru WRX?

At 54.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on body condition, signs of uneven wear, and evidence of hard use. Because this model is performance-oriented, you should also pay close attention to how the car drives and whether the clutch, shifter, and suspension feel healthy.

If you find a listing below $15,231, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Subaru WRX's resale value?

The current average of $15,279 sits slightly below last year's $15,929.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can limit upside if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, the WRX’s enthusiast appeal helps keep demand steady, especially for well-kept examples with clean histories and strong maintenance records. If you buy carefully and preserve condition, you should be in a better position when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.08% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $14,146, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,279 average.
• It delivers a more budget-friendly take on the WRX formula with strong performance and everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2017 is the stronger pick because it combines solid owner satisfaction with a sizable inventory and a softer price trend. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path.
