Used 2017 Kia Sportage for Sale nearVirginia Beach, VA

How much does the 2017 Kia Sportage cost?

Prices have softened 3.37% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,044 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Kia Sportage a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Kia Sportage earns a 4.82/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfort, handling, and feature content, including the panoramic sunroof and safety technology. They also call out its good value and reliability compared with other brands. In practical terms, that lines up well with the Sportage’s role as a compact crossover that aims to give you useful space, available all-wheel drive, and a more engaging personality than many rivals.

The market also reflects that appeal: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2017 Kia Sportage reliable?

Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with many shoppers highlighting reliability and good value over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes solid value and peace of mind, and the warranty coverage is a meaningful ownership perk for a used buyer. That said, you should still verify maintenance history and overall condition, because long-term dependability depends heavily on how the previous owner treated the vehicle.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Sportage?

At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to focus on how the cabin, electronics, and safety systems function, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on its comfort and feature content. If you’re comparing multiple listings, condition should matter as much as price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the entry point, while the EX adds more convenience and tech, and the SX Turbo brings the most power and the richest equipment. The base trim misses some of the higher-tech safety content, so you should pay close attention to feature gaps if you want more than the essentials.
• Powertrain: The LX and EX use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, while the SX Turbo uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four with 240 horsepower in front-wheel-drive form and 237 horsepower with all-wheel drive. The base engine is described as lackluster, while the turbo is quick.
• Safety package: The Sportage includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and forward-collision avoidance. Adaptive cruise control is not available, and the high-tech safety features are not offered on the base model.
• Infotainment: The base touchscreen is 5 inches, with 7- and 8-inch screens available. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are optional on the LX and standard on the EX and SX Turbo, and UVO eServices adds connected features such as roadside assistance and parking-location reminders.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 23 mpg city, 30 highway, and 26 combined with front-wheel drive, or 21 city, 25 highway, and 22 combined with all-wheel drive. The turbo gets 21 city, 26 highway, and 23 combined with front-wheel drive, or 20 city, 23 highway, and 21 combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2017 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Sportage is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, EX, SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the Sportage, but you should view it as the value-focused starting point rather than the fully featured choice. It gets the core powertrain and basic tech, but the safety and convenience content is more limited than on the higher trims.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more of the features people actually want without jumping all the way to the top model. It also gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard, which makes it the sweet spot if you want a more modern daily driver.
• SX Turbo: This is the trim to choose if you want the strongest performance and the most upscale equipment. It pairs the turbocharged engine with the richest feature set, but you should only pay for it if you’ll use the extra power and added content.

The safety package includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and forward-collision avoidance, but those high-tech features are not available on the base model.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Sportage?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make a good purchase possible.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,044 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.37% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,094, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $11,112 sits slightly below last year's $11,500.

That tells you the market has softened, which can work in your favor as a buyer but may pressure future resale if prices continue drifting down. For a seller, the key takeaway is that you may not get the same return you would have a year ago, so condition and mileage matter even more when it’s time to list. A well-kept example should still attract attention because shoppers respond to strong value and high owner satisfaction.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Sportage safe?

The 2017 Kia Sportage is an IIHS 2017 Top Safety Pick. It earns five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, traction control, a reversing camera, LATCH child-seat anchors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and forward-collision avoidance. One important caveat is that adaptive cruise control is not available, and the high-tech safety features are not offered on the base model. The IIHS also notes an Acceptable score for LATCH ease of use and a Poor score for headlight testing, which are worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out for its bold styling, sporty ride, and strong value, while also offering useful tech and a solid safety score.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, features, and personality, the 2017 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest, best-maintained listing you can find rather than chasing the lowest sticker price, because condition and history matter a lot in this market.
