How much does the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 7.93% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,313 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and luxury features. The overview also points to its broad lineup and its ability to balance upscale appeal with Jeep’s rugged identity, which makes it a strong fit if you want an SUV that can feel premium without losing capability. Good and great deals account for 32.3% of listings, which adds to its appeal if you’re shopping carefully.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because they value its comfort, performance, and towing capability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Jeep’s long-running reputation for capability and upscale interiors, which supports the sense that this is a vehicle built to serve multiple roles well. The main used-buyer risk is that some owners mention gas mileage and interior material quality, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and mechanicals match the seller’s description. Because this model can be bought in a wide range of trims and equipment levels, it’s worth checking that the features you want are actually present on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and SRT performance trims, among others. The Laredo is the base trim and comes with fog lights, halogen quad headlights, 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a USB port, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. Higher trims add leather seating, heated seats, a panoramic moonroof, larger wheels, and more upscale materials, so the base trim is the one to scrutinize most closely if you want comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: The base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 293 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can also get a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 or a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, and the available 4-wheel-drive systems range from basic to more capable low-range setups. If you want serious trail hardware, the Trailhawk’s Quadra-Drive II system and air suspension are the standout combination.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, a reversing camera, and rear park assist. Available features include forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. Some of those features are optional rather than standard, so verify the exact equipment on the listing you’re considering.
• Infotainment: The base setup is the Uconnect 5.0 touchscreen on the Laredo and Limited. It includes climate controls, stereo menus, settings, and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. Higher trims move to the 8.4-inch Uconnect screen, which is easier to live with and adds a more premium feel.
• Fuel efficiency: Some owners call out gas mileage as a drawback, so efficiency is worth weighing carefully against the Grand Cherokee’s capability and comfort strengths.

Which 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 6 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials without much luxury content. It makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core capability and styling at the lowest starting point, but you should expect fewer comfort and convenience features than the higher trims.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, power-adjustable front seats, heated front and second-row seats, and a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the premium end of the range.
• Overland: This trim is for you if you want a clear step up in luxury, with LED fog lights, a dual-pane panoramic moonroof, perforated Nappa leather, the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, and the premium Alpine audio system.
• Summit: Choose this if you want the most upscale road-going version, with unique 20-inch wheels, chrome inserts, LED fog lamps, an exclusive fascia design, and the Harman Kardon sound system.
• Trailhawk: This is the one to buy if off-road capability is your priority. It adds all-terrain tires, skid plates, a matte black hood, red tow hooks, Quadra-Drive II, air suspension tuned for articulation, and trail-focused drive modes.

The safety content also notes that the Grand Cherokee can be equipped with forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,313 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.93% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,151, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $14,154 sits slightly below last year's $15,372.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value. Trim choice and maintenance history will matter, especially because buyers in this segment tend to reward well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 5-star overall crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It also earns a best score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in moderate overlap front, side, rear, and roof-strength crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, a reversing camera, and rear park assist. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. If you want the most safety tech, make sure the specific trim or listing includes the optional systems you care about.

Should I buy a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The Trailhawk stands out as a particularly strong expression of the Grand Cherokee’s off-road personality.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,921, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,154 average.
• It offers broad capability and strong Jeep styling appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and broad trim availability, the 2017 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is worth a look, especially if you find a clean example with the equipment you want.
