How much does the 2017 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 5.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,490 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Honda Pilot earns a 4.77/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, spaciousness, and comfortable ride, and they also like the available AWD capability and useful tech features. The overview frames it as a family-oriented SUV for people who need to shuttle passengers and carry cargo, which matches the way owners describe its strengths in daily use.

With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a well-priced example if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback repeatedly points to the Pilot as reliable, dependable, and a vehicle people can count on over time. The expert drive notes also describe Honda’s reputation for dependability as a meaningful part of the Pilot’s appeal, and the cost-effectiveness commentary reinforces that expected longevity.

The main ownership risk for used buyers is that some examples may have been worked hard as family haulers, so condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Pilot?

At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the Pilot has been used as a daily family shuttle. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven tire wear, interior wear from heavy use, and any evidence that maintenance has been skipped. Because this model is often bought for its practicality, condition can vary a lot from one listing to the next.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most basic version and lacks HondaLink infotainment and the Honda Sensing package, while higher trims add more convenience and safety equipment.
• Powertrain: Every Pilot uses a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 with cylinder deactivation, and Touring and Elite models add idle stop plus a 9-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is available on every trim except the LX, but blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are reserved for the Elite.
• Infotainment: Non-LX models get an 8-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HondaLink services, and a multi-view reversing camera.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD model with the 9-speed automatic is rated at 22 mpg combined, and the test loop returned 21.9 mpg.

Which 2017 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L with leather, Touring, and Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it leaves out HondaLink and the Honda Sensing package, so it makes sense only if you want the lowest purchase price and can live with the bare essentials.
• EX: This is the first trim that unlocks Honda Sensing, making it the best-value choice if safety tech matters to you.
• EX-L with leather: This trim adds a more upscale feel and is the better pick if you want comfort upgrades without jumping to the pricier Touring model.
• Touring: This version adds the 9-speed automatic, big 20-inch wheels, and rear-seat entertainment, so it suits you if you want more family-friendly equipment.
• Elite: This is the top trim with standard AWD, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain’s chairs, and the most complete feature set.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim except the LX, but blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are still limited to the Elite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Pilot?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,490 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.64% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,871, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $17,117 sits slightly below last year's $18,140.

That decline suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can work in your favor if you’re buying now. For a future seller, it means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than assuming the market will lift every example equally. Well-kept Pilots with desirable features should still hold appeal because family buyers tend to value space, comfort, and practicality.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2017 Honda Pilot earns a five-star overall rating from the federal government and a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety; with Honda Sensing, it improves to a Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it is available on every trim except the LX. The suite includes driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, but blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are limited to the Elite. Lower trims instead rely on Lane Watch, which only monitors the right side of the vehicle.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert testing says it’s a good family hauler with strong daily-driving comfort, but some transmission behavior can be imperfect.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $14,836, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $17,117 average.
• It blends SUV styling with a minivan chassis for family-friendly utility.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall package, the 2017 is the better default choice because it combines solid owner satisfaction, broad availability, and a softer price trend. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Pilot’s core family-hauling appeal.
