Is the 2017 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, especially those who value the HR-V’s smooth driving feel and long-term practicality. At the same time, some owners reported transmission concerns, so used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance history and how the vehicle drives under load. For long-term ownership, a careful inspection matters because CVT-related issues can become expensive if they’ve been ignored.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda HR-V?

At 53.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report to confirm accident records, title status, and service history. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to the transmission, suspension, and signs of uneven wear. Focus on overall condition and maintenance consistency, since those factors matter more when you’re comparing similar listings.

What is the 2017 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $14,421 sits slightly below last year's $14,645.

That softer pricing suggests the model is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in clean condition, you should have a fair shot at limiting depreciation. Strong demand for practical crossovers can help support future resale, especially when the car has a clean history and good maintenance records.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,561, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,421 average.
• It emphasizes everyday usability and value with strong owner feedback.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,927, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,421 average.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the right pick if you want a balanced mix of value, practicality, and owner satisfaction at a reasonable market price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2016 is the better budget path; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling cabin and added refinement, the 2018 is worth a look.
