Should I buy a 2017 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,722, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,507 average.
• It emphasizes everyday usability and strong reliability.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,951, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,507 average.
• It adds higher ground clearance and optional all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the best fit if you want a balanced mix of value, practicality, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is saving money, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path; if you want to spend more for a slightly more refined setup, the 2018 is worth a look.
