CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda Civic

Summary
With 131 currently listed for sale near Seattle, WA and an average price of $16,355.00, 23.7% of 2017 Honda Civics for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda Civic 4.75 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda Civic stands out as a compact car that blends practicality, efficiency, and driving enjoyment in a way that helped make the nameplate so enduring. In the 10th generation, Honda gave the Civic a major step up in size, and the hatchback version added real utility through its liftback design and flat-folding rear seats. It also arrived with a strong mix of features for the class, including automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, a folding rear seat, and a 5-inch infotainment screen on the base LX. Buyers looking for a small car that feels more substantial than its footprint suggests will find a lot to like here.
What makes the 2017 model especially appealing is how much substance it offers without losing the Civic’s easygoing character. The hatchback came with two turbocharged powertrains, and the available 180-hp version gave it a more energetic personality. Honda also made Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available on EX and above, along with features such as blind-spot monitors, heated front and rear seats, navigation, and dual-zone automatic climate control. At the same time, the car’s reputation for good fuel economy, strong driving dynamics, and long-term value helps explain why it remained such a popular used choice.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The 2017 hatchback was part of the group that logged a high number of consumer complaints, with infotainment glitches, air conditioning condenser failures, and oil dilution in the 1.5-liter turbo among the concerns. The car also drew criticism for its styling, and some buyers may find that the base model’s acceleration is not especially strong. Even so, the 2017 Honda Civic remains a compelling used compact because it combines everyday usefulness with the kind of efficiency and handling that many rivals struggle to match.

Great value for the money. Practical but has all the safety and phone features we wanted. I also looked at Mazda 3 and the Corolla; this is better looking. Bigger on the inside than I expected. The 2.0 liter is not very fast, but adequate with good gas mileage.

2017 Honda Civic Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Honda Civic prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Honda Civic cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,331 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,870.93 |
| Year-Round High | $15,929.40 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,928 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.75% |
Prices have softened 3.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 2,589 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare before making a move.
If you find a listing below $14,870.93, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, great gas mileage, and enjoyable features, while also highlighting its impressive handling and spacious interior. That makes it a strong fit if you want a compact car that works well for daily driving and still feels practical and easy to live with. With 28.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with praise centered on long-term confidence and value. That kind of feedback suggests the Civic can be a sensible used buy if you want a car you can count on for everyday ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example, so condition and service history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Civic?
At 46.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any car that looks promising. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and how well the interior and electronics have held up. Because this model has a mixed incident history in the market, a clean, well-documented example is worth extra attention.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Civic?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare but still some room to find value.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,589 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.75% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 46.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,870.93, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $15,331 sits slightly below last year's $15,928.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle, which matters if you plan to resell later. A lower entry price can reduce your depreciation exposure, especially if you choose a clean, well-kept example. Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it comes time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 46.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.75% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $13,918, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,331 average.
- It feels more polished and modern than earlier Civics.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall market balance, the 2017 is the better primary target because it combines solid owner satisfaction with a meaningful number of deals. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path and may be the smarter choice for price-sensitive buyers.
