CarGurus Analysis: 2017 GMC Acadia
overall

Summary
With 82 currently listed for sale near El Paso, TX and an average price of $14,475, 31.7% of 2017 GMC Acadias for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 GMC Acadia 4.73 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
69.5% of 2017 Acadia models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 GMC Acadia stands out because it was redesigned to be smaller and lighter, with a shorter, narrower profile and a shorter wheelbase. That change also brought a brand new 4-cylinder engine and a 700-plus-pound weight loss, giving the Acadia a more modern feel as it moved onto GM’s C1 platform. GMC also added a new All-Terrain package, aimed at helping it compete with newer midsize crossovers.
At the same time, the redesign came with tradeoffs. The Acadia’s towing and interior capacity took some major hits, so buyers looking for maximum utility may notice the downsides of the lighter, more compact package. Even so, the 2017 Acadia’s appeal lies in its updated engineering, improved power for the V6, and the broader shift to a more efficient, contemporary design.

This vehicle has excellent features things like, wireless phone charger, rear seat warmers and many other safety features. Great family vehicle and overall good value for median asking price. I would say the only thing missing is a turbo for additional fun but still very good torque and towing capacity. I would compare this to a Ford Explorer sport of like years.

Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SL already includes a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, heated mirrors, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Higher trims add features such as LED running lights, satellite radio, heated front seats, a power liftgate, leather, a Bose stereo, and more advanced driver aids, so the lower trims are where you’ll notice the biggest feature gaps.
- Powertrain: The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is the efficiency play, while the 3.6-liter V6 brings stronger output and quicker acceleration. The 6-speed automatic is shared by both engines, and the expert notes that it can feel lurchy at low speeds and hesitant when passing.
- Safety package: Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking, while the Denali’s optional Technology package adds a surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking.
- Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while the Denali upgrades to an 8-inch screen with navigation and a virtual gauge display. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot are included, and the Denali’s optional Technology package adds more advanced driver-assistance tech.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined in FWD form. The AWD V6 is rated at 18 mpg city and 25 highway for a combined 21.
Which 2017 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?
The 2017 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SL: This is the value entry point if you want the redesigned Acadia’s core tech without overspending. You get the 2.5-liter engine, 6-speed automatic, FWD, and a surprisingly rich feature set, including CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- SLE1: This trim is mainly for buyers who want AWD availability and a few extra convenience touches over the SL. It adds LED running lights and satellite radio, but it’s more of a stepping stone than a destination trim.
- SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the V6, heated front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, remote ignition, and second-row captain’s chairs. If you want a well-equipped Acadia without jumping into luxury pricing, this is the one to target.
- SLT1: This trim is the first one that feels meaningfully upscale, with leather, an upgraded driver display, power front seats with lumbar, a Bose stereo, and the Driver Alert 1 package. It suits you if you want more comfort and safety tech without going all the way to Denali pricing.
- SLT2: This is the feature-rich choice for buyers who want more advanced safety and convenience equipment, including the Driver Alert II package, heated second-row seats, 20-inch wheels, and a trailering package. It’s the right pick if you want the most capability and driver assistance before luxury trim pricing.
- Denali: This is the top-end choice, with the upgraded 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, polished wheels, and a hands-free liftgate. If you want the most premium Acadia experience, this is the trim to buy.
The safety package is not available on the lower trims in the same way it is on the upper trims, so if driver assistance matters to you, shop above the base models.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Acadia?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,875 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.58% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,077, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 GMC Acadia's resale value?
The current average of $13,143 sits slightly below last year's $14,698.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Acadia easier to buy now but also means future resale gains may be limited unless you buy well. If you’re planning to sell later, the best protection is choosing a clean, well-equipped example with strong condition and documented history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 GMC Acadia safe?
The 2017 GMC Acadia earns five-star ratings in frontal crash and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and Teen Driver technology. Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The Denali’s optional Technology package adds adaptive cruise with full-speed automatic braking and a surround-view camera.
The lower NHTSA ratings outside frontal crash are the main caveat here, so if safety is a priority, you should focus on trims with the more advanced driver-assistance packages.
Should I buy a 2017 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.58% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 redesign brought a smaller, lighter Acadia with a new 4-cylinder engine and improved efficiency.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $15,531, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $13,143 average.
- V6 power became available to more trims, improving versatility and performance.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2017 is the smarter buy because it’s cheaper and still delivers the redesigned Acadia experience. If you’re willing to spend more for broader V6 availability and a bit more versatility, the 2018 is the better fit.
