How much does the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo cost?

Prices have softened 3.09% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,135 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

It’s a work-focused van that still adds useful convenience touches, including standard LED cargo lighting for van configurations, standard 3.7-liter V6 power for dualies, and an upgraded stereo with 4 speakers, a tweeter, and a subwoofer. Ford also made the shorter 130-inch wheelbase available as an option for the heavy-duty 350, which broadens how you can configure it for hauling and job-site use.

The Transit Cargo’s mix of utility and available comfort features makes it especially appealing if you want a van that can handle long workdays without feeling stripped down. 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Transit Cargo is built around practical durability, with a work-first layout and available equipment that supports daily use. Its standard 3.7-liter V6 and available 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 give you multiple powertrain choices, and the available turbodiesel adds another efficiency-focused option for buyers who prioritize operating costs.

Ford also includes useful tech and stability features that help the van feel more manageable in real-world use, including Side Wind Stabilization and smartphone connectivity. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a large commercial-style van can see hard use, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Transit Cargo?

At 65.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has seen fleet or heavy-duty work. Pay close attention to body condition, cargo-area wear, and signs of hard use, since those can tell you more than the odometer alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Transit offers a wide range of body styles and configurations, from van to chassis cab to cutaway, plus multiple wheelbase and roof-height combinations. Base setups are more utilitarian, while higher-spec versions add features like Sync 3 with Navigation, power running boards, and other convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: You can shop the standard 3.7-liter V6, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, or the 3.2-liter turbodiesel inline 5-cylinder. The 3.7-liter V6 is rated at 16 mpg combined, while the turbodiesel is the efficiency standout at 21 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes airbags, traction and stability control, a reversing camera, and Side Wind Stabilization. Rear parking sensors, a reverse warning beep, and lane-departure warning with driver alert are available, while blind-spot monitoring is not.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is available, with navigation as an upgrade, and Ford says Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included on all 2017 models.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.7-liter V6 is EPA-estimated at 14 mpg city and 18 highway, while the 3.2-liter turbodiesel is rated at 18 mpg city and 25 highway.

Which 2017 Ford Transit Cargo trim should I buy?

The 2017 Ford Transit Cargo is offered in 1 trim level: Transit Cargo.

Here's the short version:

The Transit Cargo is best approached as a configuration-first purchase rather than a traditional trim walk. The available body styles, wheelbases, roof heights, and engine choices matter more than a simple badge hierarchy, so the right setup depends on how much cargo space, towing, and daily drivability you need.

The safest move is to focus on the configuration that matches your work demands and then look for the equipment that makes long days easier, such as Sync 3, navigation, rear parking aids, and power running boards where available. The safety content also notes that blind-spot monitoring is not available, so that’s a useful gap to keep in mind if you spend a lot of time in traffic or tight job sites.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Transit Cargo?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully but not so much that you can ignore condition or pricing.

• Deal availability: 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,135 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.09% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,532, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo's resale value?

The current average of $17,029 sits slightly below last year's $17,573.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what you recover later if you sell. If you’re planning to own the van for several years, the current trend gives you a better entry point than a year ago.

For resale, condition and configuration will matter a lot. A well-kept Transit Cargo with desirable equipment and a clean history should be easier to move than one with visible wear or accident history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo safe?

The 2017 Ford Transit Cargo earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford includes a standard reversing camera, traction and stability control, and a full airbag suite, with rear parking sensors and a reverse warning beep available to help in tight spaces. Lane-departure warning with driver alert is also available, but blind-spot monitoring is not.

A key caveat is that rollover ratings can drop as low as 2 out of 5 stars for high-roof versions, so roof height and configuration matter when you’re comparing used examples. That makes it especially important to match the van’s safety profile to how and where you plan to use it.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Transit Cargo or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For 2017, the Transit brings more to the table with standard LED cargo lighting for van configurations, standard 3.7-liter V6 power for dualies, and an upgraded stereo with 4 speakers, a tweeter, and a subwoofer.

The bottom line: If you want a work-focused cargo van with a strong equipment story and a softer used-car price than last year, the 2017 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully for a lower-mileage or cleaner-history example, but the 2017 already gives you a good balance of value, utility, and available features.
