How much does the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo cost?

Prices have softened 4.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,135 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price, mileage, and configuration.

Is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo a good car?

Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo, and the expert rating is 6.83/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

The Transit Cargo is built around work-first utility, but it still brings useful standard equipment and available convenience features that make long days easier. Ford also broadened its appeal with options like heated seats and power-retractable running boards, while the available shorter wheelbase on the heavy-duty 350 adds flexibility for buyers who need to tailor the van to their job.

There are 26.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, which suggests you can still find attractive offers if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Transit Cargo’s reliability story is tied to its straightforward work-van mission: it emphasizes utility, drivability, and versatility over complexity. The expert evaluation also points to a blend of affordability and practicality, which is the kind of formula that often helps a commercial vehicle stay dependable in real-world use.

The 3.7-liter V6 is described as the baby of the bunch, but it still delivers solid payload and towing numbers, while the 3.5-liter EcoBoost adds much more torque for heavier-duty use. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that hard commercial life can wear a van down faster than the mileage alone suggests, so condition matters as much as the odometer.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Transit Cargo?

At 64.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, cargo-area wear, and any signs of heavy-duty use. Because this is a work van, condition can vary widely from one example to the next, so focus on maintenance records, signs of abuse, and whether the equipment still functions as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Transit is offered as a van, a chassis cab, or a cutaway, with 130- and 148-inch wheelbase lengths and 56.9-, 72-, and 81.5-inch roof heights. The base setup is the most stripped-down, while higher-roof and longer-wheelbase versions add more capability and space for work-focused buyers.
• Powertrain: Engine choices include a 3.7-liter V6, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and a 3.2-liter turbodiesel inline 5-cylinder. The 3.7-liter V6 is rated at 275 hp and 260 lb-ft, the EcoBoost at 310 hp and 400 lb-ft, and the turbodiesel at 185 hp and 350 lb-ft.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes airbags plus traction and stability control, and the Transit also has a standard reversing camera. Rear parking sensors, a reverse warning beep, and lane-departure warning with driver alert are available, while blind-spot monitoring is not.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is available, with navigation if you pay for the upgrade. Ford also added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to all 2017 models, and the system is described as functional and intuitive.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.7-liter V6 is EPA-estimated at 14 mpg city and 18 highway, for 16 mpg combined. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is also rated at 16 mpg combined, while the 3.2-liter turbodiesel is rated at 18 mpg city and 25 highway, for 21 mpg combined.

Which 2017 Ford Transit Cargo trim should I buy?

The 2017 Ford Transit Cargo is offered in 1 trim level: Transit Cargo.

Here's the short version:

The Transit Cargo is best approached as a configurable work van rather than a trim ladder with lots of luxury differentiation. The key decision is less about trim and more about choosing the right body style, roof height, wheelbase, and engine for your hauling needs. If you want the strongest all-around value, focus on the configuration that gives you the cargo space and powertrain you actually need without overbuying equipment you won’t use.

The safety package is straightforward: you get standard airbags, traction and stability control, and a reversing camera, while rear parking sensors, a reverse warning beep, and lane-departure warning with driver alert are optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Transit Cargo?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,135 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,533, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo's resale value?

The current average of $16,875 sits slightly below last year's $17,628.

That decline suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the van in strong condition, because work vehicles tend to be judged heavily on maintenance history and visible wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Ford Transit Cargo safe?

The Transit Cargo earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Transit comes with standard airbags, traction and stability control, and a standard reversing camera. You can add rear parking sensors, a reverse warning beep, and lane-departure warning with driver alert, but blind-spot monitoring is not available.

A key caveat is the rollover performance: government testing notes poor rollover ratings for some versions, and high-roof models can drop as low as 2 out of 5 stars for rollover. That makes configuration choice especially important if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Transit Cargo or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For 2017, the Transit adds standard LED cargo lighting for van configurations, standard 3.7-liter V6 power for dualies, and an upgraded stereo with 4 speakers, a tweeter, and a subwoofer.

The bottom line: If you want a work-focused cargo van with strong utility, useful standard equipment, and a market that currently favors careful shoppers, the 2017 is a sensible choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, look for a well-kept example near the low end of the range and prioritize condition, history, and configuration over extras.
