Is the 2017 Ford Expedition a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Ford Expedition earns a 4.3/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners repeatedly praise its spaciousness, comfort, value for money, and smooth ride, and the model’s family-hauling practicality makes it especially appealing if you want a roomy three-row SUV with truck-based capability. The tradeoff is that it can feel loud on the highway and cumbersome in tight spaces, so it fits best if you value space and comfort over city-friendly maneuverability. With 34.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2017 Ford Expedition reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with praise centered on comfort, value, and the way the Expedition holds up as a long-term family vehicle. Some owners did mention minor defects and interior-material concerns, so used buyers should still expect to inspect condition carefully. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is buying a neglected example rather than a fundamentally weak one.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Expedition?

At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and how well the interior and major features have been maintained. Because this model is often chosen for family duty, it’s smart to pay close attention to wear from heavy use.

What is the 2017 Ford Expedition's resale value?

The current average of $14,004 sits slightly below last year's $14,700.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price carefully to stay competitive. Demand should remain supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and practical appeal.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $19,256, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,004 average.
• It brings a full redesign with more room, more comfort, and more cargo space.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2017 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer redesign’s added room and comfort, the 2018 is the upgrade path to consider.
