Overview

The “Cadillac of Cadillacs,” the CT6 serves as the brand’s new flagship—and its first genuinely competitive large luxury sedan in decades.
Unlike the last handful of Cadillac range-toppers, the CT6 shares little with the rest of parent company General Motors’ other models. Instead, it utilizes its own highly advanced aluminum structure underneath its angular, svelte styling.
The CT6 may look relatively small thanks to its short overhangs and trim details, but the sedan stretches 204 inches from head to toe. That puts it somewhere between rivals like the BMW 5 Series and 7 Series. But despite that size disparity, the CT6 is priced and powered more like the smaller 5 Series.
Thanks to the extensive use of aluminum and other weight-saving materials, the CT6 weighs less than the 5 Series despite offering considerably more interior and cargo volume. That light weight also makes it especially lithe on its feet for such a large 4-door, and it means its power-to-weight ratio is decidedly advantageous over that of its rivals.
To that end, the CT6 offers a trio of engine choices: A 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, a 3.6-liter V6, and a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6. The base 2.0-liter variant can be paired with either rear- or all-wheel drive, while both V6 models exclusively send power to all four wheels—a boon for wintry weather markets.
The 2.0-liter is rated at 265 hp, while the 3.6-liter bumps that figure to 335. Fuel economy checks in at 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway/25 mpg combined for the 4-cylinder and 18/27/22 for the 3.6-liter V6.
But the real newsmaker is the top-of-the-line 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine, which delivers an impressive 404 hp. Thanks to the turbochargers, which allow more power to be extrapolated from a smaller engine, the 3.0-liter is rated at a decent 18/26/21. All told, that is a minor fuel-economy hit for a lot more power.
Making the most of that performance is a suspension designed with a decidedly European flair. Cadillac again looked to aluminum to help shave weight, but it is the company’s Magnetic Ride Control system that really helps the CT6 stand apart. Developed initially for the Chevrolet Corvette sports car and now utilized in a number of Ferraris, Magnetic Ride Control utilizes a high-tech fluid to help the suspension soak up bumps while retaining a degree of stiffness to keep the car flat and stable in corners.
Buyers looking for even more handling poise can opt for an available Active Chassis System that features rear-wheel steering. In short, the rear wheels are able to move slightly in order to reduce the car’s turning radius in urban areas and to balance its handling on wide, sweeping corners at higher speeds.
Befitting its luxury segment positioning, the CT6 offers a wide array of convenience and safety features.
Look in the CT6’s rear-view mirror and you’re actually looking at a high-resolution video captured by a camera mounted on the car’s trunk lid. The display allows for an unobstructed view behind the car, meaning drivers don’t have to look around rear seat passengers’ heads or thick roof pillars.
Speaking of screens, an enormous 10.4-inch capacitive touch display with a separate touchpad, like that on a laptop computer, serves as an interface for Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system. The system can read a user’s handwriting for faster navigational inputs. General Motors’ OnStar connectivity system comes standard on the CT6, with a concierge service, turn-by-turn directions, automatic collision notification, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Most of those features require a subscription that can get pricey after the free trial period runs out.
On the luxury front, all CT6s come well equipped, but the Platinum trim level pampers equally with heated, air-conditioned, and power-adjusted seats for every passenger.

How much does the 2017 Cadillac CT6 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,357 |
| Year-Round Low | $19,194.59 |
| Year-Round High | $21,893.65 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,632 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.52% |
Prices have softened 10.52% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 251 listings available, you have a modest amount of inventory to compare before you decide.
If you find a listing below $19,194.59, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Cadillac CT6 a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Cadillac CT6 earns a 4.69/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its luxurious feel, powerful performance, and smooth ride, and many also like the spacious cabin and the way it blends comfort with a sportier character. With 25.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Cadillac CT6 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The feedback points to a car that many owners feel good about living with over time, especially because they describe it as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free in everyday use. That kind of long-term confidence matters when you are shopping used, because it can reduce the odds of unpleasant surprises after purchase. For you, the main ownership risk is buying a car with hidden wear or inconsistent maintenance history, so condition and records matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Cadillac CT6?
At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, repair quality, and signs of uneven wear so you do not trade a lower price for a bigger repair bill later.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Cadillac CT6?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 25.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 251 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,194.59, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Cadillac CT6's resale value?
The current average of $19,357 sits slightly below last year's $21,632.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on how well you preserve condition and documentation. If you keep the car clean, well maintained, and accident-free, you give yourself a better chance of standing out when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Cadillac CT6 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 25.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 makes the most sense if you want a well-liked luxury sedan and you are willing to shop carefully for condition and history. If your priority is value, this year looks appealing because prices have eased and there is enough inventory to compare options. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can focus on the lower end of the range and be patient for the right listing, but you should still favor the cleanest example you can find.
