CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Acura TLX

Summary
With 45 currently listed for sale near Houston, TX and an average price of $16,435.00, 20.0% of 2017 Acura TLXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Acura TLX 4.8 / 5 stars.
88.9% of 2017 TLX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura TLX stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that was designed to bridge the gap between Acura’s former TSX and TL sedans. It offered two engine choices, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or a 3.5-liter V6, and paired them with automatic transmissions only. That setup gave buyers a range of personalities to choose from, while the available SH-AWD system added extra appeal for shoppers who wanted more traction and a more engaging driving feel.
For 2017, the TLX’s base equipment was unusually well rounded. It included an innovative four-wheel steering system, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and brake lights, a sunroof, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats with power adjustability, and a seven-speaker audio system. The cabin also used a two-screen infotainment layout, with an eight-inch display mounted on top of the dash and a seven-inch center display. Buyers who wanted more could add the Technology Package for real leather seating surfaces, voice command capability, navigation, and an ELS 10-speaker premium audio system, while V6 models could be equipped with an Advance Package that brought 18-inch wheels, parking sensors, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic braking for forward collision mitigation.
The 2017 TLX also has some clear limitations. Owners commonly praised its smooth ride, fast performance, and attractive interior, along with responsive handling in sport mode and a willingness to absorb rough pavement. At the same time, transmission behavior drew criticism, especially in eco and normal modes, and some drivers wished for Android Auto, which was not available until 2018. That mix of strengths and shortcomings makes the 2017 Acura TLX appealing to buyers who want a comfortable, well-equipped luxury sedan with a sporty edge, but who are willing to accept a few compromises.

Very responsive especially in sport+mode and shift manually. All wheel drive sticks to the road. Abosb bumpy roads like a champ. The brakes can use some improvement though. The transmission will hesitate in eco and normal mode. Just use sport and sport+ and itll take care of it. Although you can totally tell the difference in ride quality in each mode. 25 mpg all around for a V6 is not too bad. Very quiet interior. The upgraded sound system sounds better with Spotify than FM (with subscription gives you higher quality streaming). Would love to have Android Auto for Google Maps, but not offer till 2018. Wish we can retrofit the software. But overall, very happy with its value, performance and comfort.

2017 Acura TLX Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Acura TLX prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Acura TLX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,753 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,351.95 |
| Year-Round High | $16,520.98 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,395 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.92% |
Prices have softened 3.92% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 479 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $15,351.95, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Acura TLX earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, fast performance, and beautiful interior, and they also like the responsive handling in sport mode and its ability to absorb bumpy roads. For you, that means it fits well if you want a midsize luxury sedan with comfort and a sporty edge, especially if you value a well-equipped cabin and a refined driving feel. With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially when it comes to smooth operation and everyday comfort. At the same time, some owners mention transmission behavior and other annoyances, so a used example is best approached with a careful test drive and a close look at condition before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Acura TLX?
At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to bodywork, alignment, and signs of uneven wear. Because condition varies meaningfully in this market, the best buys are the ones that combine clean history with strong maintenance and a test drive that feels smooth in real-world driving.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura TLX?
This is a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right car appears, but you should still be selective.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 479 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.92% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,351.95, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $15,753 sits slightly below last year's $16,395.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can also affect what you may recover later if you sell. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to the higher end of the range. Strong condition and a clean history matter even more when you eventually go to resell, because shoppers tend to favor well-kept examples in this segment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.92% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,754, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,753 average.
- It reflects Acura’s effort to rebuild its identity and sharpen the brand’s direction.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $18,622, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,753 average.
- It adds a refreshed look, quicker infotainment, and more standard safety.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, owner satisfaction, and available deals, the 2017 is the strongest starting point. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2016 is the value play, while the 2018 makes sense if you want the newer updates and are willing to pay more.
