In this generation, Mercedes used a weight-saving aluminum body and spaceframe chassis, and the car’s design was influenced by the Mercedes-McLaren SLR. It was also built with an increased emphasis on performance, which helps explain why the SL remains appealing to buyers who want speed and sophistication in the same package.
For 2016, the SL lineup included the SL400 with a 3.0-liter 329-horsepower V6, the SL550 with a twin-turbo 4.6-liter V8 making 429 horsepower, the SL63 with a 5.4-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 530 horsepower, and the SL65 with a 6.0-liter V12 producing 621 horsepower. The sixth-generation SL was also known for its impeccable interior materials, design, and technology, including glass roof panels that could dim with the push of a button, AirScarf neck heating, ventilated massaging seats, Bluetooth, navigation, and iPod connectivity. The trunk was moderately large, offering up to 7.2 cubic feet of space with the top down and three more cubes when the top is up.
There are a few tradeoffs, though. The SL is less about lithe handling than raw power, and it does not feel as light or precise as some rivals. It is also an expensive car to buy and maintain, and its complex systems can be costly to repair. Even so, for shoppers drawn to a richly appointed roadster with serious power and a long-standing reputation for craftsmanship, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has a lot of appeal.

Great to outstanding sports / touring car from Mercedes Benz the Bi-Turbo V6 is no slouch with quick acceleration and performance while returning 29 mpg on highway driving. The AMG Sport Package improves handling but sacrifices ride quality over the standard 18” wheels & suspension settings, with that said the suspension modes can be adjusted with a switch in the center console. If you want additional performance opt for the BI-Turbo SL550 V8 model. The SL63 AMG is just crazy with the amount of torque it produces!
