Is the 2016 Kia Sportage a good car?

Yes — 4.67/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. The 2016 Kia Sportage stands out as a practical compact SUV with a good mix of everyday usability and value, and it gives you a choice between a standard four-cylinder engine and a more powerful turbocharged option in the SX trim. It also offers a compact footprint, which can make it easier to live with if you want SUV versatility without moving up to a larger vehicle.

The tradeoff is that it is not especially spacious inside, and its stiffer suspension can make broken pavement feel less forgiving than some rivals. Even so, the overall package makes sense if you want a sensible used SUV with available turbocharged performance and a value-focused setup.

32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2016 Kia Sportage reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2016 Kia Sportage is presented as a practical, value-oriented compact SUV with a straightforward engine lineup and a focus on everyday usability. Its balance of strengths suggests a vehicle that can serve well as a used purchase if you prioritize sensible ownership over luxury or maximum space.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition can vary meaningfully from one example to the next, so maintenance history and overall wear matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Sportage?

At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing looks especially appealing. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s wear matches its mileage and asking price.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Kia Sportage?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 814 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.45% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,440, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $9,700 sits slightly below last year's $9,843.

That price movement suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because the model year still has meaningful shopper interest and a broad price spread, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. If you buy carefully now, you give yourself a better chance of preserving value later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,662, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,700 average.
• It remains a stylish, practical, and affordable compact crossover with strong turbocharged performance.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $11,112, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,700 average.
• It adds bold styling, a sporty ride, and more technology.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2016 if you want a balanced mix of value, usability, and available performance. If your priority is saving money, the 2015 is the better budget path; if you want a fresher-feeling alternative and can spend more, the 2017 is the stronger upgrade path.
