How much does the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 7.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,322 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and luxurious features, along with the spacious interior and powerful Hemi engine. That lines up with the model’s use-case appeal: you’re shopping this SUV if you want something that can tow, handle rough terrain, or simply deliver a distinctive Jeep presence. The market also shows 32.4% good or great deals, so there are still attractive listings to consider.

Is the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to comfort, performance, and a luxurious feel, while also highlighting the spacious cabin and strong engine choices. The expert review also notes that reliability predictions are unimpressive and that the Grand Cherokee is not a value-first choice, so you should weigh ownership costs carefully. For used buyers, that means condition and maintenance history matter more than usual if you want to reduce long-term risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, and any evidence of deferred maintenance. Because this SUV is often bought for capability and image, condition can vary a lot from one example to the next.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Jeep sells this SUV in Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, and SRT model series. The Overland test vehicle adds a 19-speaker sound system and an Advanced Technology package, while the base setup is more stripped down. The SRT is made for performance on pavement and is track-ready right from the showroom floor.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the optional 5.7-liter V8 is for maximum towing capacity. The V6 is described as excellent, with robust acceleration and a 6,200-pound towing rating.
• Safety package: The Advanced Technology package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. It is optional and pricey.
• Infotainment: The Overland gets an 8.4-inch color touchscreen with easy-to-use Uconnect graphics, Siri Eyes Free, and Do Not Disturb functions. Uconnect Access uses a slow 3G connection and voice texting is not compatible with an iPhone.
• Fuel efficiency: Official fuel economy estimates rise from 19 mpg combined to 21, and the optional diesel V6 returned 22.9 mpg in testing.

Which 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 5 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, and SRT.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core capability and styling without paying for extra luxury or tech.
• Limited: This is the trim to watch if you want a better balance of equipment and value, especially since Jeep also offers the 75th Anniversary Edition package here.
• Overland: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel, the 8.4-inch touchscreen, and available advanced safety tech.
• Summit: Choose this if you want the most luxury-oriented version of the lineup and are willing to pay for it.
• SRT: This is the performance pick, with track-ready pavement focus and the strongest on-road personality in the range.

The Advanced Technology package is optional, so if safety tech matters to you, make sure the trim you’re considering has it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,322 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,149, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $13,149 sits slightly below last year's $14,289.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong service records should hold up better than average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not meet the criteria for a Top Safety Pick nomination from IIHS because of a Marginal rating in the small overlap frontal impact test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Advanced Technology package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. That package is optional, so safety-minded shoppers should verify that a used example has it. The main caveat is the IIHS small-overlap result, which is a meaningful weakness to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 update improves fuel economy and adds useful tech like Siri Eyes Free and automatic emergency braking.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,710, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,149 average.
• It offers broad trim and engine choice with a comfortable, capable feel.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $14,258, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,149 average.
• It leans harder into upscale comfort and off-road character, with the Trailhawk standing out.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, inventory, and updated tech, the 2016 is the primary target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling alternative.
