Is the 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE a good car?

Yes — 4.89/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the expert rating is 9.00/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the eye-catching design, thrilling V6 and V8 power, and the excellent handling and comfort. That lines up with the car’s use case as a two-seat sports car built for driving enjoyment rather than practicality, so you should expect excitement and luxury first, not everyday utility. The market also shows 34.6% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE reliable?

The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the car is built around a premium, well-executed driving experience, with solid handling and a composed ride that support confidence over time. Jaguar’s complimentary 5-year/60,000-mile scheduled maintenance program adds a useful ownership perk.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic satisfaction and more about the cost of maintaining a high-performance luxury sports car as it ages.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE?

At 68.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had any bodywork or if the seller cannot clearly document maintenance. Focus on condition, because this is a low-slung sports car with premium components and a lot of performance hardware that can be expensive to sort out later. Pay extra attention to how the car drives, how the electronics behave, and whether the cabin and exterior show signs of hard use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base F-Type starts with a 340-hp supercharged V6, 18-inch wheels, a switchable active exhaust, high-performance braking, and an 8-inch touchscreen with a 770-watt Meridian audio system. The F-Type S adds a more powerful 380-hp V6, 19-inch wheels, a limited-slip differential, and more aggressive exhaust tuning. The F-Type S AWD is the choice for buyers who want all-wheel drive, while the F-Type R brings the 550-hp supercharged V8, AWD, and the most performance-focused equipment.
• Powertrain: You get a supercharged V6 in the base car and F-Type S, plus a supercharged V8 in the F-Type R. The lineup includes rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and the automatic transmission is the better fit if you want the smoothest everyday performance.
• Safety package: The optional Premium and Vision Pack adds a blind-spot monitor with closing-vehicle sensing, front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera, rear traffic detection, and adaptive and intelligent front lighting with cornering lamps. It also adds heated seats and a heated steering wheel.
• Infotainment: The system uses an 8-inch color touchscreen, includes wireless-style app connectivity through Jaguar InControl, and supports Apple and Android devices. It also offers remote functions, navigation, and a 770-watt Meridian 12-speaker audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is rated at 18 mpg city/26 highway/21 combined.

Which 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE trim should I buy?

The 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE is offered in 4 trim levels: F-Type, F-Type S, F-Type S AWD, F-Type R.

Here's the short version:

• F-Type: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core F-TYPE experience: the supercharged V6, strong standard equipment, and the same dramatic styling. It makes sense if you want the look and feel of the car without stretching to the pricier trims.
• F-Type S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more power, a limited-slip differential, larger wheels, and a more aggressive exhaust setup without jumping all the way to the top model.
• F-Type S AWD: Choose this if you want the S trim’s stronger performance with all-wheel drive for less-than-ideal road conditions. It is the right fit if traction matters more than having a manual transmission.
• F-Type R: This is the full-performance choice, with the supercharged V8, AWD, and the most aggressive hardware in the lineup. It suits you if you want the quickest, most powerful version and are willing to pay for it.

The optional Premium and Vision Pack adds important safety and convenience features, so it is worth seeking out if you want more driver assistance equipment.

Is the 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE safe?

Should I buy a 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.48% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds all-wheel-drive and manual-transmission options, plus warranty improvements and free maintenance.

Consider the 2015 if:

• It’s the original coupe-era F-TYPE with a strong emotional appeal and a few small issues left to fix.

The bottom line: If you want the most complete version of this early F-TYPE formula, the 2016 is the better primary choice because it adds useful updates and still delivers the same style and performance appeal. If you are more price-sensitive and want the core experience with a slightly older model-year value proposition, the 2015 is still worth a look.
