CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Honda CR-V
Summary
With 3,940 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,338, 31.4% of 2016 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Honda CR-V 4.53 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2016 Honda CR-V stands out as a practical, well-rounded compact crossover with a strong reputation for reliability and value. It offers a roomy cabin and cargo area, and the fourth-generation redesign brought more interior space for cargo and up to five passengers while also adding a reconfigured flat-folding rear seat. Honda’s 2015 update gave this generation a more modern feel with a continuously variable transmission for better fuel economy, a new top Touring trim, LED daytime running lights, and available amenities such as a power tailgate and touch-screen infotainment system.
Safety is another major part of the CR-V’s appeal. For the first time in this generation, Honda added advanced driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control with lane keeping, forward automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warnings, though these features were reserved for the top Touring trim. The 2016 Honda CR-V is also described as long-lived and a solid, reliable long-term choice, which helps explain why it remains attractive to used buyers.
Its main drawbacks are that it is not especially exciting to drive and, apart from the higher trims, it is fairly basic by modern standards. Even so, the 2016 Honda CR-V’s combination of comfort, practicality, and a strong reliability record makes it an easy vehicle to recommend for shoppers who want dependable everyday transportation.

How much does the 2016 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,352 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,938 |
| Year-Round High | $15,595 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,597 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.57% |
Prices have softened 1.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,942 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2016 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 4.53/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfortable interior, and good fuel economy, and they also value the spaciousness and useful features for daily use. For you, that makes it a practical choice if you want a roomy compact crossover that works well for commuting, errands, and family duty. With 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.53/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback emphasizes reliability, and the model is also described as long-lived and a solid, reliable long-term choice. That combination suggests you can count on it for everyday use if the specific vehicle has been maintained well. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about the condition of the individual example you choose.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda CR-V?
At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any promising listing. Focus closely on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s wear matches its mileage and asking price. If a listing looks especially clean and well maintained, that can be worth paying extra attention to.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda CR-V?
This is a selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,942 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.57% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,938, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $15,352 sits slightly below last year's $15,597.
That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. A clean history and strong presentation should matter more when you eventually go to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.53/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.53/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $14,517, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,352 average.
- It offers a roomy, practical package with broad everyday appeal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $17,511, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $15,352 average.
- It brings a more thoroughly executed compact crossover feel with strong feature appeal.
The bottom line: The 2016 is the best primary path if you want a well-liked, practical CR-V with strong owner satisfaction and a reasonable market price. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling option, the 2017 is the upgrade path to compare.
