CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Honda CR-V
Summary
With 3,957 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,392, 32.7% of 2016 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Honda CR-V 4.53 / 5 stars.
59.3% of 2016 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Honda CR-V stands out as a practical, well-rounded compact crossover that emphasizes space, comfort, and long-term dependability. It belongs to the fourth generation, which brought more interior room for cargo and up to five passengers, along with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 185 horsepower and EPA-rated highway fuel economy that reached 30 mpg. Honda also gave this generation a flat-folding rear seat, replacing the earlier fold-and-tumble design, which helped make the cabin more useful for everyday hauling.
What makes the 2016 model especially appealing is the mix of everyday usability and added equipment. In this generation, buyers could choose LX, EX, or EX-L trims, and the EX-L could be equipped with a navigation system or rear entertainment system. Honda also added a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems in this generation, including adaptive cruise control with lane keeping, forward automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warnings, though those features were reserved for the top Touring trim. That combination of space, safety tech, and strong reliability helps explain why the CR-V has long been a favorite among shoppers looking for a sensible used SUV.
At the same time, the 2016 Honda CR-V is not the most exciting choice to drive. The source describes these fourth-generation models as fairly basic apart from the Touring trim and notes that they are not very exciting behind the wheel. Even so, they remain a solid option for buyers who want a durable, easy-to-live-with crossover with a roomy cabin and a strong reputation for low-cost ownership.

How much does the 2016 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,394 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,935 |
| Year-Round High | $15,574 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,421 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.18% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 3,932 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable number of options to compare.
Is the 2016 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 4.53/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfortable interior, and good fuel economy, and they also value the spaciousness and useful features for daily driving. That makes it a sensible fit if you want a practical compact crossover with room for passengers and cargo. With 33.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.53/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights reliability, and the model is also described as dependable and good for long-term ownership. That combination matters if you want a used SUV you can count on without expecting a lot of drama. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example, so condition and service history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda CR-V?
At 59.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, alignment, tires, and any signs of uneven wear or repair work. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, because the best used example is the one that shows consistent care.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,932 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,935, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $15,394 sits slightly below last year's $15,421.
That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate your future trade-in or private-sale value. Strong demand for practical, well-liked crossovers can also help keep interest broad when it is time to move on.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.53/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.53/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $14,294, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,394 average.
- It emphasizes practicality, reliability, and efficiency in a roomy package.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $17,363, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $15,394 average.
- It adds a redesigned look with strong all-around appeal and more modern family-friendly value.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price stability, owner satisfaction, and broad availability, the 2016 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the better value play; if you want the newer redesign and can spend more, the 2017 is the upgrade path.
