How much does the 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD cost?

There are 264 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD a good car?

Generally — the 4/5 user rating points to a truck that satisfies many used buyers, and the overview backs that up with a clear focus on serious work capability plus a more polished cabin than earlier versions. You also get a broad range of body styles and trims, so you can shop for a basic work truck or a more upscale setup depending on how you plan to use it. The model year’s added tech and convenience features make it easier to live with if you want heavy-duty strength without giving up everyday comfort. 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview suggests a truck built around durability-minded capability, with strong towing and hauling numbers that fit its heavy-duty mission. At the same time, this model year was associated with a long list of recalls, so reliability-minded shoppers should treat documentation and condition as part of the evaluation, not an afterthought. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a truck that has unresolved recall history or wear from hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD?

At 72% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any recalls were completed. Put inspection priority on frame, suspension, towing hardware, and signs of heavy-duty use, since this truck was built for serious work. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, especially if you plan to tow or haul regularly.

What is the 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $38,208 sits slightly above last year's $37,507.

That upward move suggests the truck has held demand well enough to support pricing, even in a used market where buyers are usually value-focused. If you own one and keep it in strong condition, the combination of heavy-duty capability and broad buyer interest can help it stay competitive when you decide to sell. The price range also shows that well-priced examples can move quickly, especially when they land near the lower end of the market.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.87% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line:

The 2016 is the better fit if you want a heavy-duty truck with strong capability, a more polished cabin, and enough market activity to shop carefully for the right example. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby year may be worth considering, but the 2016 remains the cleaner choice when you want a balance of capability, comfort, and buyer appeal.
