CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Cadillac Escalade

Summary
With 835 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,384, 33.3% of 2016 Cadillac Escalades for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Cadillac Escalade 4.11 / 5 stars.
57.1% of 2016 Escalade models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Cadillac Escalade stands out as a full-size luxury SUV that pairs a more aggressive, blockier exterior with an interior that was refined and loaded with technology. It remained body-on-frame, and it was offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, plus standard and ESV versions. For buyers who want a large SUV that feels upscale rather than merely utilitarian, that combination of presence, comfort, and tech is a major part of its appeal.
This model year also benefited from a strong standard equipment list. It came with a 420hp, 6.2-liter V8, and the transmission had already changed to an eight-speed automatic partway through the first year of production. Standard features included active-aero shutters, 20-inch chrome-plated aluminum wheels, a hands-free power liftgate, remote start, tri-zone climate control, and an 8,300-pound towing capacity. It also included the CUE infotainment system, 4G LTE connectivity, a surround-view camera, and a power-operated third row that folded flat into the floor. Driver-assistance features added for 2016 included automatic high-beam control, lane-keep assist, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a fully loaded Platinum trim.
The main drawbacks are the ones that often come with a vehicle this large and powerful. The Escalade is known for poor fuel economy and poor ride quality, and its size can make it difficult to fit in a garage. Even so, the 2016 model’s mix of luxury, capability, and technology helps explain why it remains a distinctive choice in the used full-size SUV market.

Great car, however the visability when making left or right turns are very scary and cumbersome when trying to see pedestrians. GM should have redesigned the side mirrors before putting these out to market. My 2005 Escalade has a much better design.

How much does the 2016 Cadillac Escalade cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,268 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,159 |
| Year-Round High | $24,600 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,505 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.13% |
Prices have softened 9.13% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 823 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2016 Cadillac Escalade a good car?
Generally — the 4.11/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the luxurious features, comfortable ride, and strong performance, and many also highlight the interior quality and smooth driving experience. The model’s family-friendly appeal comes through clearly in that feedback, especially if you want a large SUV that feels upscale rather than merely utilitarian. With 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Cadillac Escalade reliable?
Owners rate it 4.11/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes dependable day-to-day use, with praise centered on comfort, strong performance, and a generally trouble-free ownership experience. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and cosmetic condition, since long-term ownership risk rises quickly when a luxury SUV has been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac Escalade?
At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, electronics, and signs of uneven wear. Because owner feedback mentions cosmetic issues and a high price tag, condition should matter as much as mileage when you compare listings.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Cadillac Escalade?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 823 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.13% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,159, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Cadillac Escalade's resale value?
The current average of $22,268 sits slightly below last year's $24,505.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well you preserve the vehicle. If you keep mileage reasonable, maintain service records, and avoid accident history, you should be in a better position when it comes time to sell. The current market also suggests buyers are still willing to pay for a well-kept Escalade, especially one with strong presentation and documented care.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.11/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac Escalade or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.13% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.11/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $19,771, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $22,268 average.
- It offers a redesigned take on Cadillac’s flagship SUV with strong visual presence.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want the stronger current-market value story and are willing to shop carefully for condition. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one with clean history and solid maintenance records.
