How much does the 2016 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 8.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 836 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, luxurious comfort, and extensive range of features, and many also highlight the smooth driving experience and M sport suspension. For you, that makes it a compelling choice if you want a midsize luxury sedan that balances daily comfort with a more engaging feel. With 35.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that many owners find dependable in everyday use, with praise centered on its strong performance and smooth driving character. The same feedback also suggests that some examples can be more trouble-free than others, so condition and maintenance history matter. For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by focusing on service records and avoiding neglected examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

At 59.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a full vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should get priority, especially for electrical systems, cooling components, and any signs of deferred maintenance. Focus on overall condition and service documentation, because a well-kept example is likely to be a much safer buy than one with gaps in its history.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what to target.

• Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 836 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,205, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $12,205 sits slightly below last year's $13,299.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to buyers but less favorable for sellers trying to maximize return. If you own one, strong condition and documented maintenance will matter more when it comes time to resell. A clean history and desirable equipment can help offset some of the broader price softness.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $16,968, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,205 average.
• It brings a fully redesigned chassis, new engines, and updated technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because it combines lower pricing with solid owner satisfaction. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer redesign, the 2017 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize the updated platform and fresh engineering over upfront savings.
