CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Summary
With 2,165 currently listed for sale and an average price of $9,680, 29.1% of 2015 Jeep Cherokees for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Jeep Cherokee 4.75 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2015 Jeep Cherokee stands out as a compact SUV that blended everyday usability with genuine Jeep hardware. It rode on a Fiat-based chassis, and Jeep still offered a low-range transfer case on Sport, Latitude, and Limited trims, with standard equipment on the Trailhawk, which also included a rear differential lock. That made it more capable than many small crossovers of its era, even though its front-wheel-drive-based layout and lack of solid axles meant it was not as capable off-road as the older Cherokee.
For 2015, Jeep also addressed some of the model’s usability and emissions details. Auto-stop/start was added for the V6, while the four-cylinder received emissions upgrades and met Partial Zero Emission Vehicle standards. The backup camera and auto headlamps became standard on the Latitude and Trailhawk, and additional option packages brought ventilated seats on the Trailhawk, forward emergency braking, and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitors. Standard equipment already included LED taillamps, Bluetooth, air conditioning, two USB ports, an aux jack, an SD card reader, remote keyless entry, and a 5-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5.0, so even the early version of this generation offered a solid list of conveniences.
Its appeal was also in the way Jeep spread features across the lineup. The Latitude added body-colored mirrors and door handles, roof rails, chrome window trim, 17-inch alloy wheels, and more, while the Limited brought leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 8.4 and SiriusXM radio. The Trailhawk was the most rugged version, with red tow hooks, all-terrain tires, a one-inch lift, revised bumpers, Rock mode for Selec-Terrain, and a rear locking differential. The main drawback was that the base 2.4-liter four-cylinder was described as harsh and underpowered, which helps explain why the Cherokee’s strengths were often tied more to its available equipment and capability than to its entry-level powertrain.

I love this car, the heated seats and stearin wheel are one of my favorites. The moon roof that opens up into the back seats is beautiful. The fact I can restart my car in the morning is a time saver

I finally decided on the Jeep Cherokee. I had looked at the Grand Cherokee, but there were recalls on the 2014's with no resolution, so I thought it best to stay away from the 2015's as well. I decided to drive the regular Cherokee V6 (Limited 4x4), it has all the room I need with no kids. I was very impressed with how solid it felt and "tight". I drove the Kia and Toyota equivalents, but they both seemed too "splashy" to me. I am very happy with my new Jeep. My Cherokee has the "stop/start" option which is very interesting and I am liking it. This technology has been in Europe for 30 years. The way it works is: once you have driven the car at lest a 1/4 mile or so, the stop/start will engage once you come to a complete stop with your foot on the brake. Once at a complete stop, the Jeep engine will turn off, the tach goes to 0. The radio/heat/air, etc will stay on. Once you begin to take your foot off the brake the engine starts immediately and off you go. The first week using it may seem odd, but it will save you gas. There is no hesitation at all. You can choose to turn off your "stop/start" with the push of a button if desired. The Jeep Cherokee also has nitrogen filled tires which gives a much smoother ride than regular air. If necessary, you can top-off or fill the tires with regular air. I am keeping the nitrogen for the better ride. I am still getting used to the back-up camera, which is a must have in any SUV/CUV. This is my first 4x4 and look forward to using it in the snow and on the gravel roads in Boone and Blowing Rock of North Carolina.

My brother has a 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It is an excellent vehicle , on and off road. Unfortunately the cost of even a used one is too much for me so I have to continue driving my old Subaru.

How much does the 2015 Jeep Cherokee cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $9,701 |
| Year-Round Low | $9,650.42 |
| Year-Round High | $10,559.19 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,564 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.17% |
Prices have softened 8.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,163 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
If you find a listing below $9,650.42, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Jeep Cherokee a good car?
Yes — 4.75/5 is a strong user rating, and it lines up with the Cherokee’s appeal for comfort, features, and performance. Owners repeatedly point to the heated and cooled seats, spacious interior, and user-friendly technology as standout strengths. The model also fits you well if you want all-weather traction and a sense of adventure in a compact SUV package. With 29.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful number of opportunities to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Jeep Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes dependable comfort, useful features, and a vehicle many shoppers feel good about living with over time. At the same time, the model’s reputation is tempered by concerns about the 4-cylinder engine and broader transmission issues in this generation, so reliability confidence depends heavily on the specific vehicle you choose. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable only if you verify condition carefully and avoid examples with unresolved drivetrain concerns.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Jeep Cherokee?
At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on the drivetrain, transmission behavior, and overall mechanical condition, since those areas matter most for this model year. You should also focus on how the vehicle drives in real-world conditions, because a careful test drive can reveal issues that a listing photo will not.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Jeep Cherokee?
This looks like a moderate market where you can be selective, but the best examples still deserve quick action.
- Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,163 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.17% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,650.42, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $9,701 sits slightly below last year's $10,564.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless you choose a well-kept example. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation will matter a lot because buyers will compare your vehicle against a market that already shows some price pressure. Strong maintenance records and clean history will matter more than ever when you go to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.17% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $8,857, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $9,701 average.
- It feels more polished and versatile, with strong comfort and foul-weather handling.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $10,555, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $9,701 average.
- It emphasizes stronger off-road capability while staying comfortable and useful.
The bottom line:
The 2015 makes sense if you want a well-liked Cherokee with a softer price than last year and enough inventory to shop carefully. If you are price-sensitive, the 2014 is the better value play; if you want a more capability-focused step up, the 2016 is the better alternative.
