What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Jaguar XJ-Series?

At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a complex option set. Focus on overall condition, electronics behavior, and evidence of careful maintenance, since the ownership experience can be shaped by upkeep as much as by mileage. If you want the best odds of a clean, satisfying purchase, compare service records closely and make sure the car’s features work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Major choices include regular or long wheelbase, rear- or all-wheel drive, and 6 or 8 cylinders. The base setup is the entry point, while the AWD version adds all-wheel drive, and the Supercharged and R versions move up in performance and equipment. The Portfolio Package adds heated and cooled 14-way front seats with passenger memory, power lumbar, massage, leather dash, contrast stitching and piping, microsuede headliner, and four-zone climate control.
• Powertrain: In the U.S., the standard engine is a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Supercharged models use a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with 470 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque, while the XJR raises output to 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. The 8-speed automatic and lightweight aluminum body help the car feel quick and composed, and the six-cylinder model is described as the most pleasing for everyday use.
• Safety package: Blind-spot detection is the only named driver-assistance feature on the roster. Parking sensors and a backup camera are standard, while lane departure, night vision, pedestrian detection, and automatic braking are not available. Adaptive cruise control can prime the brakes if it senses a potential collision.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses an 8-inch touchscreen. Wireless smartphone integration and over-the-air update capability are not mentioned. The Meridian audio system is available in 14-speaker, 20-speaker, and 26-speaker forms, and the interface is described as easy to use but laggy at times.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation says the car averaged close to 24 mpg.

• Supercharged: Choose this if you want the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 and a bigger performance jump. It suits you if you care more about power and presence than value.
