CarGurus Analysis: 2015 GMC Canyon

Summary
With 37 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,828, 21.6% of 2015 GMC Canyon listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 GMC Canyon 5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2015 GMC Canyon stands out as a midsize pickup that leans more toward refinement than many buyers might expect from the segment. It arrived for the 2015 model year with a more traditional, blocky look that echoed the full-size GMC Sierra, and it was offered as either an extended cab or a crew cab. Under the hood, it started with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, while an available 3.6-liter V6 produced 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Properly equipped, the four-cylinder model could tow 3,500 pounds, and the V6 version was rated at 7,000 pounds.
What makes the 2015 Canyon especially appealing is how much equipment GMC packed into it, even in lower trims. The base SL included features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, vinyl floor coverings, and a 4.2-inch infotainment display. Higher trims added more comfort and technology, including an eight-inch touchscreen, a wifi hotspot, OnStar telematics, Siri Eyes Free, leather seats, automatic climate control, and heated front seats. Buyers who wanted more capability could also look to the available All-Terrain package, which added all-terrain tires, an off-road-tuned suspension, a locking rear differential, hill descent control, and front recovery hooks.
The Canyon’s strengths were balanced by some clear compromises. Its fuel economy was respectable for the class, with the rear-wheel-drive four-cylinder automatic estimated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined, while the rear-wheel-drive V6 was rated at 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. Safety results were mixed, too: the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it four out of five stars in overall and frontal crash protection, five stars for side impacts, and three stars in rollover tests, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the crew cab its highest “Good” rating in most tests but only “Marginal” in the small frontal overlap test. That combination of upscale features, useful capability, and a few notable shortcomings is what gives the 2015 GMC Canyon its distinct character.

The SLT is very nice with most of the modern extras, electronics, Bose sound system, upholstery, etc. Handles more like a car than a truck. Not too huge, but not too small. Mileage is pretty much the same as the Jeep it replaced. After 2 weeks I have no complaints.

How much does the 2015 GMC Canyon cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,051 |
| Year-Round Low | $16,561 |
| Year-Round High | $18,335 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,817 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.30% |
Prices have softened 4.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 387 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2015 GMC Canyon a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating suggests strong owner satisfaction, and the 2015 Canyon’s appeal comes from its refinement, useful capability, and well-equipped lower trims. The overview also shows that you get a midsize pickup with a more traditional truck look, multiple cab choices, and a broad spread of comfort and technology features. If you want a truck that feels more upscale than basic work-focused rivals, this model year fits that use case well. 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 GMC Canyon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview points to a truck with respectable fuel economy for the class and a mix of safety results that are solid in some tests but less impressive in others. That means you should think about reliability in the broader used-truck sense: condition, maintenance history, and how the truck was used matter a lot. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a truck whose upkeep or prior use outweighs its strong feature set.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 GMC Canyon?
At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from trucks with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, put a pre-purchase inspection at the top of your list, especially if the truck has off-road equipment, higher mileage, or signs of heavy use. Focus on overall condition, repair quality, and whether the truck’s equipment and wear match the seller’s story.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 GMC Canyon?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 387 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.30% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,561, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 GMC Canyon's resale value?
The current average of $17,051 sits slightly below last year's $17,817.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to move a truck quickly. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Condition and history will matter a lot when you eventually resell, especially in a segment where shoppers compare trucks closely.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.30% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $18,589, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $17,051 average.
- It brings a refreshed take on the revived midsize-truck formula.
