Is the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

The expert evaluation also describes the Equinox as a solid pick for many families because of its versatility and availability, and notes that its mechanical reliability was rated highly in outside quality research.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Chevrolet Equinox?

At 61.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment and safety features work as expected. Because this model is popular with families, it’s worth checking that the cabin, cargo area, and electronics have held up to daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L includes the 2.4-liter engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission, Bluetooth phone, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and 60/40-split folding rear seats. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, with the LS bringing satellite radio and body-colored exterior panels, the 1LT adding a 7-inch touchscreen MyLink radio, backup camera, and leather-wrapped steering wheel, the 2LT adding heated front seats, a premium stereo, and automatic climate control, and the LTZ adding rear park assist, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, halogen headlamps, and a power rear liftgate.

• Powertrain: You can shop this Equinox with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder or an optional 3.6-liter V6. The 4-cylinder is rated at 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque, while the V6 makes 301 hp and 272 lb-ft and is better suited to towing or mountain driving. The 2.4-liter can reach 22 mpg city/32 highway in front-wheel drive, while the V6 is rated at 17/24.

• Safety package: Higher 2LT and LTZ trims include frontal-collision alert, lane-departure warnings, and parking sensors. Every trim except the base L comes with a rear-facing parking camera. Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock brakes, tire pressure monitoring, daytime running lamps, driver and passenger airbags with side-impact bags, and head curtains up front.

• Infotainment: The 1LT adds a 7-inch touchscreen MyLink radio, and the system supports Bluetooth streaming with Pandora and Stitcher. The vehicle also includes 4G/LTE hotspot capability, with the first 3 months of data or 3GB included. Higher trims can be fitted with dual rear-screen entertainment systems.

• Fuel efficiency: The 2.4-liter engine is rated at 22 mpg city/32 highway in front-wheel drive, with about a 10 percent reduction in all-wheel drive. The 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 17/24, with another 10 percent reduction for all-wheel drive.

Which 2015 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2015 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value-focused starting point, and it gives you the core Equinox formula with the 2.4-liter engine, 6-speed automatic, Bluetooth phone, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and split-folding rear seats. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra convenience features.

• LS: This trim adds satellite radio with a 3-month trial and body-colored exterior panels. It’s a modest step up, but it still keeps the Equinox simple and practical.

• 1LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 7-inch touchscreen MyLink radio, backup camera, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and available 18-inch wheels. If you want the most useful everyday upgrades without jumping too far in price, this is the trim to target.

• 2LT: This trim builds on the 1LT with heated front seats, a premium stereo, automatic climate control, and optional leather and navigation. It’s the better pick if comfort matters more to you and you want a more upscale daily driver.

• LTZ: This is the most feature-rich version, adding rear park assist, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, halogen headlamps, and a power rear liftgate. It suits you best if you want the most safety and convenience equipment available in this lineup.

Higher 2LT and LTZ trims include the advanced safety features, while the base L misses the rear-facing parking camera.

• Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,783 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.45% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,166, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $8,224 sits slightly below last year's $8,698.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the current trend means you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still draw interest, especially because this model remains a practical family crossover.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The Chevrolet Equinox received a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, including five-star ratings for side impact crashes and four-star ratings for front and rollover crashes. Similarly, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Equinox a Good rating in all categories.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Equinox comes standard with 4-wheel antilock brakes, tire pressure monitoring, daytime running lamps, driver and passenger airbags with side-impact bags, and head curtains up front. Higher 2LT and LTZ trims add frontal-collision alert, lane-departure warnings, and parking sensors, while every trim except the base L includes a rear-facing parking camera.

Should I buy a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 model adds 4G/LTE hotspot capability and keeps the Equinox’s practical, family-friendly formula intact.

The bottom line: If you want a used Equinox with broad availability, a lower average price, and a proven family-crossover setup, the 2015 is a sensible place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can shop this year confidently and focus on condition, accident history, and trim level to find the best value.
