The buying guide describes later 2011-and-newer cars as more reliable, and this model year is part of that improved stretch. For used buyers, that suggests the car can make sense if you prioritize a proven performance package, but you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition because performance cars can be more sensitive to neglect over time.

At 51.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic who can evaluate the drivetrain, brakes, and suspension. Should I buy a 2014 Subaru Impreza WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.23% year-over-year.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of performance, everyday usability, and market support, the 2014 is a solid primary choice. If you're especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
