Is the 2014 Nissan Versa Note a good car?

Is the 2014 Nissan Versa Note reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that many owners found dependable for daily commuting, with recurring praise for fuel efficiency, comfort, and affordability. The expert evaluation also describes the car’s complaints as few in number and small in significance, while noting that the model’s efficient operation and practical packaging are part of its appeal. On the ownership-cost side, the review also says the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that the car’s weak acceleration and below-average reliability outlook can make condition and maintenance history especially important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Versa Note?

At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior body repair, and whether the car still feels composed in everyday driving. Because this model is meant to be a practical commuter, you’ll want to make sure the basics are solid before you buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim is the most basic version, with a 5-speed manual, 15-inch steel wheels, cloth upholstery, a 4-speaker sound system, and little else. The S Plus adds a CVT, cruise control, and active grille shutters, while the SV brings a leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls, Bluetooth, power windows and door locks, keyless entry, and vanity mirrors. The SL Package adds 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, variable intermittent wipers, push-button ignition, and Easy Fill Tire Alert, and the SL Technology Package adds navigation, voice control, Google Send-to-Car, hands-free text messaging, and a 360-degree Around View Monitor.
• Powertrain: The redesign replaced the old 1.8-liter engine with a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder making 109 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. The CVT-equipped version is rated at 31 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, and the car is described as relatively underpowered even though it’s efficient and workable for commuting.
• Safety package: The car includes 6 airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, and stability control. Front disc brakes are paired with rear drums, and the safety content notes that IIHS ratings were not published at the time of the review.
• Infotainment: Available tech includes a 4.3-inch audio display on the Convenience Package and a 5.8-inch touchscreen navigation system with voice control on the Technology Package. Bluetooth is available, but voice recognition is a weak point.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT-equipped model is rated at 31 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, and the review also cites a combined rating of 35 mpg.

Which 2014 Nissan Versa Note trim should I buy?

The 2014 Nissan Versa Note is offered in 4 trim levels: S, S Plus, SV, SL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the cheapest way into the Versa Note, but it’s very bare-bones, with a manual transmission, steel wheels, cloth upholstery, and a basic audio system. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible entry price.
• S Plus: This is the better-value choice if you want the lowest-cost automatic version, since it adds the CVT plus cruise control and active grille shutters. It’s the trim that most clearly balances price and everyday convenience.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the most useful comfort and convenience upgrades, including Bluetooth, power accessories, keyless entry, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
• SL: This is the most feature-rich setup, especially if you want the available convenience and tech packages with navigation, a rear camera, and the 360-degree Around View Monitor.

The safety content notes standard airbags, antilock brakes, brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, and stability control, with rear drum brakes instead of rear discs.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Versa Note or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It was fully redesigned for 2014, with better efficiency, more interior space, and a broader feature set.

Consider the 2015 if:

• It adds the SR and SL trims, bringing more sport pretensions and tech features.

The bottom line: The 2014 is the better pick if you want the cleaner, more value-focused version of the Versa Note formula. If you’re willing to spend more for extra trims and features, the 2015 broadens the lineup, but it also weakens the original low-price advantage. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2014 remains the more straightforward choice.

How does the 2014 Nissan Versa Note compare to the 2014 Ford Fiesta?

Our experts score the 2014 Nissan Versa Note 6.7/10 and the 2014 Ford Fiesta 7.7/10.

The Fiesta is the stronger overall pick on expert scoring, while the Versa Note leans harder into affordability, interior space efficiency, and value. The Versa Note also has a lower starting price, but the Fiesta brings more horsepower and a slightly better deal share. If you want the more budget-friendly hatchback, the Versa Note makes sense; if you want the stronger all-around package, the Fiesta has the edge.
