Why it stands out
The 2014 Nissan Versa Note stands out as an affordable hatchback that was fully redesigned for 2014 and offers an attractive assortment of options. It also makes efficient use of interior space, which helps give it practical appeal for buyers looking for a simple, budget-friendly commuter.
On the road, the Versa Note was described as ideally suited for city driving and daily commuting, and owners commonly praised its fuel efficiency and comfort. The main drawback is its lack of power, especially when merging onto highways or during quick accelerations, so it is best viewed as a sensible everyday car rather than a performance-oriented one.

I love the features of the car. I think that the car is at a good value. The car is missing a backup camera. That's about it. I would compare the car to a station wagon but bigger.

Good features but lacking in acceleration. A good city car but if you need to get on to the freeway it was a little lackluster on pick-up for me. If the price had been a bit lower I may have gotten it. Also, I couldnt find the spare tire. There were tools but where is the tire?

Is the 2014 Nissan Versa Note a good car?
Generally — 4.33/5 from owners and 6.67/10 from experts point to a car that fits your needs best if you want an affordable, practical commuter. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.
Owners repeatedly praise its fuel efficiency, comfort, and affordability, and the overview frames it as a simple, budget-friendly hatchback with efficient use of interior space. That lines up with the car’s city-friendly, daily-commuting focus and its practical appeal for buyers who want value over excitement.
The market also shows 23.5% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile listings to find.
Is the 2014 Nissan Versa Note reliable?
Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. Review summaries also point to a car that many drivers found dependable for everyday commuting, with fuel efficiency and comfort standing out as recurring strengths.
The expert evaluation adds that the car’s operation is efficient and its complaints are few in number and small in significance. It also notes that Nissan does not offer a free-maintenance plan, and that ownership costs should be weighed carefully by used buyers.
For a used purchase, the main long-term risk is that you should expect a value-focused car rather than one with especially strong ownership-cost protection.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Versa Note?
At 65% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on signs of prior body repair, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any issues that could affect daily commuting comfort or fuel-saving operation.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The S trim is the most stripped-down version, with steel wheels, cloth upholstery, a basic 4-speaker audio system, and little else. The SV adds more everyday convenience, while the SL Package brings more comfort and convenience equipment, including alloy wheels, fog lights, push-button ignition, and the Easy Fill Tire Alert system.
- Powertrain: The car uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 109 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. CVT-equipped models are rated at 31 mpg city/40 highway/35 combined, and the engine is described as underpowered but workable for commuting.
- Safety package: Nissan includes 6 airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, and stability control. The safety text also notes that front disc brakes are paired with rear drums, and the front-impact result is weaker than the side-impact and rollover results.
- Infotainment: The available tech includes a 4.3-inch audio display on the SV Convenience Package and a 5.8-inch touchscreen navigation system with voice control on the SL Technology Package. Wireless phone integration is not mentioned.
- Fuel efficiency: CVT-equipped models return 31 mpg city/40 highway/35 combined, and the expert review reports a real-world average of 35.5 mpg.
Which 2014 Nissan Versa Note trim should I buy?
The 2014 Nissan Versa Note is offered in 4 trim levels: S, S Plus, SV, SL.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the cheapest way into the Versa Note, but it is very bare-bones. You get a manual transmission, steel wheels, cloth upholstery, and a basic audio setup, so it makes sense only if price matters more than convenience.
- S Plus: This is the better low-cost pick if you want an automatic, since it adds the CVT and cruise control. It is the best-value choice for buyers who want to keep costs down without giving up the convenience of an automatic.
- SV: This is the trim that starts to feel more livable for everyday use, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth, power accessories, keyless entry, and vanity mirrors. If you want the most balanced mix of price and comfort, this is the one to target.
- SL: This is the most feature-rich setup, especially when equipped with the available packages. It adds more convenience and tech, including alloy wheels, fog lights, push-button ignition, a rear-view camera, and navigation-related features.
The safety content notes that the car includes a solid baseline of airbags, stability control, and braking aids, but front disc brakes are not fitted on all wheels.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Versa Note?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare condition closely.
- Deal availability: 23.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 217 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 65.0% of listings are accident-free.
Is the 2014 Nissan Versa Note safe?
The 2014 Nissan Versa Note earns an overall four-star rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side-impact crash tests and four-star rollover protection, but only three-star front-impact protection.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Nissan equips the car with 6 airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, and stability control. The review also notes that rear drum brakes are used instead of rear discs, which is part of the car’s cost-conscious setup.
Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Versa Note or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 23.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It was fully redesigned for 2014 and brings a more efficient engine plus more interior-space practicality.
Consider the 2015 if:
- It adds two new top-tier trims with more personality and tech.
The bottom line: If you want the lowest-cost path into a practical Versa Note, the 2014 is the better starting point. If you can spend more and want extra equipment, the 2015 broadens the lineup, but it also weakens the value advantage that makes the 2014 appealing. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2014 remains the smarter shopping target.
