CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 174 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,171, 33.3% of 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.17 / 10.
62.6% of 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that blends comfort, premium materials, and advanced technology with a distinctly upscale image. It has long been seen as an aspirational symbol of personal success, and its appeal is rooted in the way it combines a safe, comfortable driving experience with dynamic capability. Even so, its value proposition depends heavily on the Mercedes-Benz badge, since the car’s appeal is less compelling without the three-pointed star.
On the road, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class can feel more engaging the faster it goes, showing the kind of composed performance expected from a German luxury sedan. The test car described here lacked the optional sport suspension, which suggests that buyers seeking a sharper setup may want to pay close attention to equipment. Still, the E-Class remains attractive for shoppers who want a refined interior, strong overall performance, and a polished balance of comfort and capability.

Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — you rate it 4.78/5, and the expert rating is 6.17/10. The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise the luxury features, strong performance, stylish design, handling, acceleration, and interior quality. That lines up with the E-Class’s role as a midsize luxury sedan that emphasizes comfort, premium materials, and advanced technology, while still offering a composed, capable driving experience. If you want a refined luxury car with a polished balance of comfort and capability, this model year fits that brief well.
35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence over time, with praise centered on the overall ownership experience. The expert evaluation also says reliability should prove better than average over time, which supports the idea that this is a car you can count on if it has been maintained properly.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s basic durability and more about how well a specific example has been cared for, especially given the complexity of its luxury equipment.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 58.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
Start with a vehicle history report and make sure you understand any prior damage, repairs, or title issues before you go further. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, because a luxury sedan with this much equipment can hide expensive problems if it has been neglected. Focus on overall condition, how the electronics operate, and whether the car feels tight and well sorted on the road.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The E-Class sedan lineup includes the E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic. The lower-priced versions can feel sparse because items such as leather seats, heated front seats, split-folding rear seats, Keyless Go, navigation, premium audio, and a reversing camera were optional rather than standard, so feature content matters a lot when comparing listings.
- Powertrain: The E350 test car uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a 7-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, rated at 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. It also includes stop/start and Eco, Normal, and Sport calibrations, while the E250 BlueTec is the fuel-economy-focused choice and the AMG models are the performance-oriented options.
- Safety package: Safety equipment is grouped into the Lane Tracking Package, which includes Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, and the Driver Assistance Package, which adds active versions of those features plus Distronic Plus cruise control with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with Pedestrian Detection, Pre-Safe Plus, and Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist. Some of these systems are optional, so verify exactly what the car has.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses the COMAND system, and the tech setup can include a hard-drive navigation system, Bluetooth, mBrace2 telematics, Mercedes-Benz Apps, and access to multiple media sources. The system can feel fussy to operate, and the display screen is small by modern standards.
- Fuel efficiency: The E350 4Matic is rated at 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The test car averaged 20.3 mpg during testing, and the E250 BlueTec is the better pick if fuel economy is a priority.
Which 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 6 trim levels: E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic.
Here's the short version:
- E250 BlueTec: This is the efficiency-first choice, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest fuel-cost focus in the lineup. It is also one of the versions that can be optioned with 4Matic, so check the equipment list carefully if all-weather traction matters to you.
- E350: This is the most balanced pick for many shoppers because it sits in the mainstream of the lineup and is the version discussed in the test drive. It gives you the core E-Class experience without jumping into the higher-cost performance trims, and it is the best-value starting point if you want a conventional luxury sedan with broad appeal.
- E400 Hybrid: Choose this if you want a more efficiency-minded powertrain without moving all the way to the diesel model. It sits above the E350 in the lineup and adds another route to better fuel economy.
- E550 4Matic: This is the stronger luxury-performance step up for buyers who want more power and standard all-wheel drive. It also can be optioned with Airmatic adaptive air suspension, which may appeal if you want a more sophisticated ride setup.
- E63 AMG 4Matic: This is the performance-focused choice if you want the AMG character and the extra standard equipment that comes with it. It also opens the door to upgrades such as a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound audio system and carbon fiber trim.
- E63 AMG S 4Matic: This is the top performance trim, and it is the one to consider if you want the most aggressive version of the E-Class sedan. It sits at the top of the price range and is aimed at buyers who want the most capability and equipment.
The Lane Tracking Package and Driver Assistance Package are important safety options to look for on any trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

- Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,092 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.59% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,474, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $12,666 sits slightly below last year's $13,416.
That tells you the market has moved in a buyer-friendly direction, which can help you negotiate now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that this model year is already priced in a way that reflects its age and luxury-car depreciation pattern, so condition and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to list it. Well-kept examples with desirable options should hold up better than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class benefits from significant upgrades to its safety technology, packaged under the Intelligent Drive umbrella.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety setup includes Collision Prevention Assist and an improved Attention Assist system. The available Driver Assistance Package adds Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Pre-Safe Brake, and Pre-Safe Plus. The Lane Tracking Package is the simpler safety bundle, while the Driver Assistance Package is the more comprehensive one, so you should verify which package a used car actually has.
Should I buy a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.59% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 model year adds significant safety technology under the Intelligent Drive umbrella, including Collision Prevention Assist and an improved Attention Assist system.
The bottom line: The 2014 E-Class makes sense if you want a luxury sedan with strong owner satisfaction, a softer used-car price, and a broad mix of comfort and technology. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2014 can be a smart buy when you find a well-kept example with the right options and a clean history.
