Is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

You also get recurring praise for its engaging performance, stylish interior, great handling, fuel efficiency, and comfortable ride. That lines up with the car’s broad appeal as a compact that can work as basic transportation or a more upscale daily driver, depending on how you equip it.

With 31.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to find a compelling value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels dependable in everyday use, with drivers repeatedly highlighting its strong handling, fuel efficiency, and comfortable ride. The expert review also describes it as an exceptionally engineered car with mechanical components that rarely call attention to themselves, and the cost-effectiveness notes say owners should be able to extract better than 30 mpg out of it.

That said, maintenance costs can be a concern, so a used example with incomplete service records deserves extra scrutiny before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mazda MAZDA3?

At 54% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially if you are comparing cars with similar prices but different condition histories. Pay close attention to signs of wear in the cabin, electronics, and any optional equipment, since feature content varies a lot by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Touring trim adds aluminum wheels, heated side mirrors, keyless passive entry with push-button start, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, and nicer interior and exterior trim. It also unlocks many desirable options, while Grand Touring models add leatherette upholstery, a power driver’s seat, and heated front seats.
• Powertrain: The more affordable models use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 155 horsepower and either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. The more powerful 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, and it comes with a 6-speed automatic that includes paddle shifters and a Sport driving mode.
• Safety package: Touring models include Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Grand Touring models add a reversing camera and E911 Automatic Emergency Notification service, while Lane Departure Warning and Smart City Brake Support are reserved for the Mazda 3s Grand Touring.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a 7-inch touchscreen with a rotary controller, and it can include smartphone integration, text messaging capability, E911 service, and access to Aha, Pandora, and Stitcher. Some functions are disabled once the car is moving, so you should make sure the interface suits your preferences.
• Fuel efficiency: The sedan is rated between 32 and 34 mpg in combined driving, while the 5-Door is expected to return between 31 and 33 mpg. The review also says owners should be able to easily extract better than 30 mpg in real-world use.

Which 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 4 trim levels: SV, Sport, Touring, Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• SV: This is the most basic path into the car, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way to get the Mazda 3’s core driving character and do not need much equipment.
• Sport: This is the value-oriented choice if you want a straightforward setup without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds key convenience and safety upgrades like Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and keyless passive entry with push-button start.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most upscale version, with leatherette upholstery, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and access to the most advanced safety and tech features.

For safety-focused shoppers, the Touring and Grand Touring trims are the ones to prioritize because they unlock the most useful driver-assistance equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mazda MAZDA3?

The market looks selective-buyer friendly, so it is a reasonable time to shop if you are willing to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 604 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,638, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $10,222 sits slightly above last year's $10,199.

That small increase suggests the market has stayed stable rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For you, that usually means less risk of buying into a rapidly depreciating moment, especially if you choose a well-kept car with desirable equipment.

Because the price range has remained tight, condition and trim will matter more than timing alone when you eventually resell. A cleaner history and stronger feature set should help you stand out to future buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content highlights Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a reversing camera, E911 Automatic Emergency Notification service, rain-sensing wipers, an Adaptive Front Lighting System, Lane Departure Warning, and Smart City Brake Support. Rear parking assist sensors are also offered.

You should note that some of the most useful safety features are trim-dependent, so a lower-trim car may not have the same protection and convenience equipment as a Touring or Grand Touring model.

Should I buy a 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its redesigned look, broad trim and powertrain variety, and unusually strong technology content.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,140, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,222 average.
• It feels more upscale and is praised as a refined, practical, and fun all-around package.

The 2014 makes the most sense if you want the lower entry price and still want the Mazda 3’s engaging character. If you can stretch your budget and want a newer-feeling, more polished alternative, the 2015 is the better upgrade path.
