Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Kia Forte 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Kia Forte stands out as a much more complete and competitive small car than its predecessor. It brings together style, space, efficiency, and in-car tech in a package that can sit alongside the best in the segment, while its interior aesthetic is described as head-of-the-class. That combination makes it appealing to buyers who want an everyday car that feels more polished than a basic commuter.
It is also presented as a practical choice for daily driving, with a layout and functionality that support that role well. Owner feedback reinforces that impression, with praise for reliability, fuel efficiency, comfort, and a spacious trunk. The main drawback noted by owners is a lightweight feel that can bring extra noise and a sense of fragility, so the Forte’s strengths are balanced by some concerns about refinement.

The car is a good, perhaps, great value. It runs well, is comfortable, is not noisy. The radio is acceptable quality but not great. The controls for everything are easy. It is a bit of a tin can. You can hear the lightweightness when you slam a door or pop the hood. But this is probably how it gets good gas mileage. The clear cut on mine is starting to bubble in small places; however, it does not have rust that I can detect on the body. Overall, Im happy with it.

How much does the 2014 Kia Forte cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $6,671 |
| Year-Round Low | $6,484.49 |
| Year-Round High | $7,157.73 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $7,160 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.82% |
Prices have softened 6.82% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 254 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $6,484.49, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Kia Forte a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Kia Forte earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, and comfort, and they also call out the spacious trunk as a practical advantage. That lines up with the overview’s focus on an everyday car that feels more polished than a basic commuter, especially if you want style, space, efficiency, and in-car tech in one package.
With 22.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Kia Forte reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to reliability, fuel efficiency, and comfort as recurring strengths, along with a practical, spacious trunk. The expert drive notes also frame the Forte as a more complete and competitive small car than its predecessor, which supports the sense that it is built to be a dependable daily driver.
Kia also emphasizes a broad safety and convenience package, which can help the car feel well-rounded over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by age or heavy use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Kia Forte?
At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because the Forte’s owner feedback highlights a lightweight feel and some perceived fragility, it makes sense to focus on how tight, solid, and well-kept the car feels on the road and over rough pavement.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LX is the simpler, lower-cost choice, while the EX adds a more upscale interior feel, faux carbon-fiber accents, leather seating, and a more polished cabin presentation.
- Powertrain: The LX uses a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder with 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque, while the EX upgrades to a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. The EX also pairs with a 6-speed automatic with tap-shifting.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front impact and side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, braking assist, hill assist control, electronic brakeforce distribution, front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
- Infotainment: Bluetooth is standard, UVO is unavailable on the LX but standard on the EX, and the system uses a vibrant color touchscreen with voice-activated navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The 1.8-liter engine returns 25 mpg city/37 highway with the manual or 25/36 with the automatic, while the 2.0-liter EX returns 24/36.
Which 2014 Kia Forte trim should I buy?
The 2014 Kia Forte is offered in 2 trim levels: LX, EX.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and are comfortable with the simpler setup. It gets the 1.8-liter engine, standard Bluetooth, and the core safety equipment, but it skips UVO and the more upscale cabin touches found higher up.
- EX: This is the best-value trim if you want the Forte to feel more complete. It adds the stronger 2.0-liter engine, UVO infotainment, a more refined interior, and leather seating, making it the better pick if you plan to keep the car for daily use and want the most well-rounded experience.
The safety package is comprehensive across the lineup, but UVO is not available on the LX.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Kia Forte?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 22.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 254 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.82% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 51.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $6,484.49, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Kia Forte's resale value?
The current average of $6,671 sits slightly below last year's $7,160.
That softer pricing suggests the Forte has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you own one and plan to sell later, condition and maintenance history will matter a lot in protecting value.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Kia Forte safe?
The Forte earned a Good rating for side impact, roof strength, and moderate frontal offset tests from IIHS, and IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick. It also earned a Poor rating for small-overlap frontal offset crashes.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Forte comes with a broad standard safety suite: front impact and side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, braking assist, hill assist control, electronic brakeforce distribution, front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
The main caveat is the poor small-overlap result, so you should pay close attention to crash history and front-end repair quality when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2014 Kia Forte or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 22.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.82% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 brings a much more complete and competitive package than its predecessor, with style, space, efficiency, and in-car tech.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $7,273, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $6,671 average.
- It offers more equipment if you are willing to spend more.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and owner satisfaction is strong. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and extra equipment, the 2015 is worth a look, but the 2014 gives you the stronger price-to-package balance.
