The overview also points to a compact sedan that blends style, safety, and affordability, with especially strong fuel-economy appeal and a turbodiesel option that broadens its use case for efficiency-focused shoppers.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that many people find dependable in everyday use, with strong fuel economy and a comfortable, easygoing character that supports trouble-free commuting. The expert driving notes also describe it as a car that is easy to live with in city and suburban driving, with a forgiving ride, nimble handling, natural-feeling steering, and a responsive brake pedal.

The cost-effectiveness notes add that the Cruze is expected to cost less to own and operate than many rivals over the first 5 years, and the Diesel trim includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that condition and maintenance history matter more as the car ages.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Cruze?

At 51.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with a prior accident record. Focus on overall condition, signs of deferred maintenance, and whether the car’s equipment and trim level match the listing description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ, Eco and Diesel. The base LS is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add features such as a turbo engine, leather seating, heated front seats, remote start, a reversing camera, automatic climate control, keyless passive entry, push-button start, and larger wheels.
• Powertrain: The standard LS uses a 138-horsepower, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, while the 1LT and Eco use a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with more accessible torque. The Diesel uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter clean diesel engine with 151 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque, plus EPA ratings of 27 mpg city, 46 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Standard OnStar includes Automatic Crash Response, Crisis Assist, and Emergency Services technology. Available safety equipment includes a reversing camera, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Side Blind Zone Alert, with some of those features not included on the base LS.
• Infotainment: Chevrolet MyLink includes a 7-inch color touchscreen, USB port, Internet radio access, Bluetooth connectivity, music streaming, hands-free texting, and Siri Eyes Free support. All trims except the base LS offer or include MyLink, a reversing camera, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert.
• Fuel efficiency: The Diesel is rated at 27 mpg city, 46 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined, and the review notes that it can deliver class-leading fuel economy. The cost-effectiveness discussion also notes that the Diesel’s value depends heavily on the fuel-price gap between gasoline and diesel.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Cruze trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, 1LT, Eco, 2LT, LTZ and Diesel.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, but it is the most basic version and lacks several of the convenience and tech features found higher up the range. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible purchase price.
• 1LT: This is the best-value starting point because it adds the turbocharged 1.4-liter engine, power mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, cruise control, a dash-top storage bin and 16-inch aluminum wheels. If you want a more satisfying daily driver without jumping too far in price, this is the trim to target.
• Eco: Choose this if fuel economy is your top priority and you still want a well-equipped car. It builds on the 1LT with aerodynamic enhancements, powertrain changes aimed at better mileage, lightweight 17-inch wheels, and Chevrolet MyLink with Bluetooth music streaming.
• 2LT: This is the comfort-and-convenience upgrade, adding leather seats, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, remote engine start, Chevrolet MyLink, a sport suspension, rear disc brakes and larger 17-inch aluminum wheels.
• LTZ: This is the most upscale gas trim, with a standard automatic transmission, reversing camera, automatic climate control, keyless passive entry with push-button start, heated outside mirrors, fog lights and 18-inch aluminum wheels.
• Diesel: This is the efficiency-focused choice, pairing the 2LT equipment set with a turbodiesel engine, automatic transmission, beefed-up electrical system, auxiliary heater, aerodynamic enhancements and a unique 17-inch wheel design. It also includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of ownership.

The safety-package note to keep in mind is that all trims except the base LS offer or include Chevrolet MyLink, a reversing camera, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Cruze?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,197 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $6,485, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze's resale value?

The current average of $6,526 sits slightly below last year's $6,867.

That price movement suggests the Cruze has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the car in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it is time to sell.

The market also tends to reward cars with strong owner satisfaction, and this model year's 4.33/5 rating supports buyer interest over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze earns five-star ratings from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS in all crash-test assessments except the small overlap frontal impact test, where it is rated Marginal.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags and OnStar with Automatic Crash Response, Crisis Assist, and Emergency Services technology. Available driver-assistance features include a reversing camera, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Side Blind Zone Alert, though some of those features are not included on the base LS.

The main caveat is the Marginal small-overlap frontal result, so if safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to trim content and overall vehicle condition.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its class-leading fuel economy story, especially with the newly optional turbodiesel engine.

The bottom line: The 2014 Cruze makes the most sense if you want a value-oriented compact sedan with strong fuel economy, solid owner satisfaction, and a market that still offers some negotiating room. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2014 is worth a close look; if you want a newer-feeling Cruze with more modern tech, you may want to compare nearby model years as well.
