Used 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class for Sale near Trenton, NJ
After 6 years, Mercedes-Benz's largest SUV finally gets a thorough makeover under the hood and inside the cabin. Aside from new daytime LEDs, a more prominent 2-bar grille and some stylistic tricks from the AMG playbook, the newly revealed members of the GL-Class look more like a gently stretched ML wagon; the real revelation promises to be in power and comfort.
Three new engines are introduced, one for each trim. Thereās the GL350 BlueTec with a re-engineered 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 making 240 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque; the GL450 contains a 4.7-liter twin-turbocharged direct-injection V8 with 362 ponies and 406 lb-ft; the top-of-the-line GL550 also has the same 4.7, but tweaked to pump out 429 hp and 516 lb-ft. A 7-speed automatic transmission and AWD come standard. The BlueTec has proven to be a popular line, with 40 percent of GL buyers opting for it in 2011.
Both the 350 and the 450 are outfitted with 19-inch wheels, with 20-inch 10-spoke alloys optional; the 550 supersizes the tires to 21 inches and halves the spokes to 5. Airmatic, Mercedesā automatically adjusting air suspension system, cushions the ride, and an optional On-and-Off-Road package adds the ability to raise ground clearance to 12 inches and offer 23.6 inches of wading capacity. Adding to the panorama is a standard sunroof on all levels of trim.
Inside, the wood paneling, center stack and dash are identical to that of the M-Class; while not a revelation, itās certainly more luxurious than before. And itās bigger than the previous model, with more passenger room (41.2 inches of headroom, 40.3 of legroom) and a third row easily flipped for cargo mode. All in all, the new GL-Class sports 93.8 cubic feet of cargo space, up 10.5 from last year. A powered rear liftgate is also standard, and all levels can tow up to 7,500 pounds when properly outfitted.
Like all Mercedes, the GL-Class is packed with the latest safety technology. Radar-based collision prevention, vehicle stabilization and automated parking are amongst the many high-tech goodies customers know and love. A new āEasy Entryā mode automatically collapses the second row, allowing better access to the rear seats. The GL is supposed to hold up to 7 passengers, but that third-row seating can be a little cozy.
Mercedes is attempting to position this new GL as a larger, more powerful M-Class and a formidable challenger to the Range Rover by swathing it in luxurious goodies and boosting its power. We shall see if the baby takes the candy.

(28 reviews)This is probably the best car Ive driven. It feels like youre on an airplane. I love it. Its worth every penny I spent on it. Im just waiting on the headrest DVD players to entertain my kids on the backseat on our next road trip. Truly a classy & futuristic car!!!
Great ride and driver friendly controls. Navigation is cumbersome, but it is a 2013. V8 engine has no issues with climbing hills or killing the jet ski.
Mercedes Benz revamped it's larges SUV (barring the G-Class) , the GL-Class in 2013, and I must say that they have done a fabulous job at it. Indeed, the exterior styling is subject to individual taste, but never a great fan to MBZ (Mercedes Benz) SUV designs, this new GL design has caught my heart. Not only is it very handsome, it is large, seats 7 passengers (excellent if you have a big family or extended family), rides comfortably, and even goes off-road with adjustable air suspension. It features a 4.7 Liter TwinTurbo V8 that produces 362/5000 HP and 406/1000 TQ, which isn't the most powerful for a heavy SUV but plenty enough for everyday driving and hauling the family. You can indeed feel the 5401-lb (2450 kg) curb weight when driving it, meaning that it does really handle like an SUV. I wasn't expecting this car to handle like a sports car; however, the BMW X5 definitely handles a lot better and is more fun to drive. The car we have has an optional video entertainment system with two video screens in behind the headrests of the driver and front passenger's seat, enabling the rear passengers to watch DVDs and listen to music, which is great if you have people in the backseat who gets bored on long-trips easily. One thing I really like about this car is that it has an automatic folding 3rd row seats; at the press or pull of a button, the two 3rd row seats folds down or raises themselves automatically, saving us from the trouble of climbing over the car and pulling the levers. Overall, this is a great looking car with great functionality, and if you're in the market for a luxury SUV that hauls 7 passengers comfortably, definitely do consider this MBZ GL-Class!
I like my new-2-me Mercedes GL. I test-drove Suburban, Tahoe, Mercedes GLE , Tundra, Sequioa, Sierra and Lariat. I needed something to tow my new RV and to road trip with my family of 4 (2 teen girls with lots of luggage). When I test drove, my girls evaluated back seating. I wont go into every evaluation, but we were looking for a comfortable, roomy ride for all passengers on cross-country trips. I love driving and wanted a vehicle that wouldnt choke when towing RV, but would be responsive in day-to-day driving. It had to be roomy and have great audio capabilities with Bluetooth features. This GL has all that and more. I know it will cost more in maintenance, but what Im not paying in car payments I will pay at the mechanic to pre-empt any problems. It it a great vehicle, comfortable, powerful and roomy--great quality without the higher up-front price-tag of some of the other vehicles I drove.
This SUV is extremely fast for what it is (7 passenger, 3 row seating). It rolls zero to 60 in 5.1 seconds. It is also state of the art when it comes to technology (Brake Assist, Lane tracking, Blind Spot Assist, etc.
