The Audi A3 compact four-door hatchback (or Sportback, as Audi calls it) rolls into 2010 with only a few minor updates, primarily to its list of optional features. Outside, Audi makes the S-Line exterior package, which includes a single-frame grille, front air inlets, modified bumpers, and a rear roof spoiler, standard on the A3 for 2010. Dark brown walnut wood interior trim becomes an optional feature for 2010, and Audi adds upgraded wheels and xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights to the optional Premium Plus package. In addition, the automaker now includes upgraded leather seats with silver stitching and Alcantara inserts as part of the optional high-end Titanium Sport package. Finally, Audi discontinues the Audi A3 3.2 trim for 2010.
Owners can now choose from three A3 trims, including the 2.0T Premium, the 2.0T Quattro Premium, and the 2.0T PZEV Premium. A turbocharged TFSI 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powers all trims, although the 2.0T PZEV Premium receives a low-emissions version of the engine, which makes it eligible for sale in certain states. The four-cylinder powerplant generates 200 hp and a very respectable 207 lb-ft of torque, and features Audi's FSI direct-injection system, which helps improve performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions, according to the automaker.
The engine in all trims connects to a six-speed manual transmission, which comes standard, or an optional S-tronic automatic transmission with a dual-clutch system, which enables rapid-fire shifting. In addition, drivers can shift manually using either the shift lever on the console or shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel. The automatic transmission also includes a Sport mode, which delays upshifts or engages quick downshifts to ensure optimal revs for a sportier driving experience. The EPA estimates fuel economy for the four-cylinder engine at 21/30 mpg with the manual transmission and 22/28 with the automatic.
Outside, the 2010 Audi A3 displays a low, sporty profile, with Audi's signature deep-lipped grille, subtly arched headlights, and stylish front foglights. The exterior side mirrors incorporate turn indicators, while at the rear the hatchback allows access to nearly 20 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat. Owners can add such features as aluminum roof rails and metallic or pearl-effect exterior paint as options.
The A3's versatile interior makes good use of high-quality materials, such as leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and aluminum trim. Dual-zone climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, and one-touch power windows also come standard. The front seats on the A3 2.0T Premium remain manually adjustable, although the Premium Plus package adds an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with four-way power lumbar support. The Premium Plus package also adds interior illumination and a storage system in the cargo area with side pockets, floor tie-downs, and bag hangers. A 10-speaker, 140-watt AM/FM audio system with Sirius satellite radio, an MP3 input jack, a subwoofer, and a Graduated Audio Level Adjustment, which increases audio volume as cabin noise levels rise, comes standard on all trims. The Premium Plus package adds Bluetooth, while options include a DVD-based navigation system with a 6.25-inch LCD screen.
The front-wheel-drive A3 offers a firm yet comfortable ride with good handling, thanks to its MacPherson struts in the front and four-link rear suspension. For optimal traction and stability on all types of road surfaces, owners can add Audi's Quattro AWD system. An electronic stabilization program and antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution come standard on all trims. Safety features include front seat-mounted chest side airbags and Sideguard head-protection airbags for front and rear passengers. The base A3 rides on 17-inch five-spoke wheels, although Audi offers a variety of wheel options, including 18-inch titanium cast alloy wheels.

(9 reviews)Fun to drive with hidden launch control. Sleeper car.
I bought this car on Friday, 4/16/10, and went on a 500 mile trip over the weekend, which affirmed my great appreciation for this unique vehicle. Handling is tight and responsive. The S-Tronic transmission is amazing and feels so much like a stick that my left foot kept looking for the clutch pedal. Acceleration plants you in the seat and it gets up and scoots. I love the different transmssion modes and it behaves like a race car with the double clutch system using either the console or paddle shifters. I originally wanted a stick, but this system is fun and convenient. In heavy traffic I am glad I can relax and put it in D and let it do it's thing while I play around with the Sirius radio, which I can do from the steering wheels. Audi didn't scrimp on the build quality and this car has just about everything I would want in a car. All 6 feet of me fits perfectly and I was never tired of unconfortable. It also gets some looks from passers by and that big grill in the front is really an eye catcher. I calculated that I was getting about 30 miles to the gallon when I got home, making this a very economical ride for US standards. Being conscious about fuel economy and the environment, I feel that I am doing my part with this effecient and low emmissions means of transportation. On top of all that, it's a blast to drive.
Sans any particular car reference, in general the Audi A3 sportback is quite nice, as are most Audis and for a small car with a bit of luxury and a hatchback, well, you cant go too far wrong here.
The car wasnt as clean and working as described
Awesome car, luxurious and very sporty, fun to drive! Highly recommend!
