About 2008 Scion xD
Building on the popularity of its boxy xB wagon and sporty tC coupe, Scion introduced the all-new five-door xD subcompact hatchback for the 2008 model year. It replaces the xA hatchback, which Scion discontinued after the 2006 model year. Built on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris, the xD is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 128 horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, while a four-speed automatic transmission is available as an option. Antilock brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist are standard. Despite its affordable price, the xD is available with a lot of nice, even unexpected features as standard equipment. A first aid kit, for instance, is standard, as is a chrome exhaust tip, multi-reflector halogen lights, and a choice of three wheel-cover designs. Inside is a stylish look, with a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, amber instrument panel illumination, front sport bucket seats, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, air conditioning, a digital clock, and a six-speaker Pioneer AM/FM stereo system with a CD player and iPod connectivity. The xD also comes with a sliding and reclining rear seat, which is borrowed from the five-door Yaris. The Scion is also available with a number of accessories that enable drivers to personalize the car, including a rear spoiler, a navigation system, a two-tone steering wheel, and a sport shift knob available in a variety of colors, as well as a premium Pioneer stereo system that can be personalized with a variety of skins.
