The very LAST normally aspirated M car that BMW ever made. Glorious screaming S54, manual transmission and turn of the millennium BMW build quality. Just enough technology to not feel left behind, but simple and straight-forward controls for the enthusiast car that it is. No electric power steering here, just a throwback hydraulic rack taken from the M3 CSL, as were the brakes. Built from the BMW parts bin and the M Division took all the top bits. E46 M3 engine, differential, lower control arms, HD wheel bearings, but ditched the clutched cooling fan for an electric one. Most of the car very reliable and cheap enough to maintain because there's a lot of common parts with the E36, E46 3 series. The sport seats are snug but comfortable enough for long road trips. All the controls are easy to reach and simple to understand.
