(11 reviews)It's not a sports car, but it has decent acceleration. Brakes are good, but when they wear out, go aftermarket, since the OEM rotors are crap. Handling is a bit bumpy, but acceptable with good tires. Lots of room for cargo, unless you go camping. In that case get a roof cargo box or rack. I prefer the looks of the 07 and earlier Libertys to the newer boxy ones. It averages about 19 MPG mostly highway, but be ready for service costs. Most Chrysler transmissions require ATF +4 at $10 a quart, and you must use Mopar fluid, or you'll be buying a new trans shortly. This includes the so-called "Universal" crap, no matter which well known brand it is. Everything else is aftermarket compatible. Not much fun to drive, unless you're driving in snow or off road.
I'm not terribly impressed with the Jeep Liberty. For one, the seating configuration is awkward for anyone over 6' tall. Next, the gas mileage is terrible. And third, it is still a Jeep, through and through. That's something that can't be said for all of Jeep's newest models. In fairness, however, it is quite useful in inclement weather and light-duty off road situations. I can't be too hard on the gas mileage since it is a 3.7 liter six-cylinder in an SUV. I imagine for the right person, this vehicle would be perfect. It's definitely worth consideration.
This is a good small SUV with nice styling and good performance. It drove with a full trunk and the 5 passengers for +1500km without faltering on our road trip as a rental! So much fun to drive, and very comfortable! I liked it!
If you needed a cheap 4X4 this was a good one to get. and no....It is not a rock crawler, its just a good trail SUV, and thats it. Even going to work in snow covered roads, puting it in part time 4X4 did a great job and held a nice strait line powering through the snow.
Decent mileage (21 hwy). Relatively quick compared to others in it's class. A little small inside. Nice interior considering it's the base model. Good price. Never had any issues with it at 20,000 miles. No amount of snow seems to stop it!
