While the X-Type is still a fine representative of Jaguar elegance, much of its presentation and engineering is highly suggestive of Ford's influence. The X-Type models, created to offer a more affordable route to Jaguar ownership, are all V-6 powered mid-size cars with AWD. For 2007, there are two X-type models available: the sedan and the Sportwagon. The styling and engineering are both carried over from the previous year, but some new standard features have been added. The sedan receives stability control and a moon roof. The Sportwagon has added a memory function for the driver's seat and an upgraded audio system. Because the X-Types are positioned well below the other Jaguar models in price, the option list is a bit more comprehensive here. Jaguar has also adjusted some of the packages for this year. Both models are equipped with leather seating, wood trim, full power accessories, cruise control and a power driver's seat. The sedan will feel more like a Jag if the optional luxury package is added. This includes rain-sensing wipers, a memory function power seat for the driver, a burl walnut finish, and piping on the seats. Both X-Types are powered by Jaguar's most modest engine: a 3.0 liter DOHC V-6, which provides 227 horsepower and 206 pound feet of torque. This is also the only Jaguar to use a five speed automatic transmission. While the X-Type is light-weight and not incredibly powerful, the fuel economy is lowered a bit by the full time AWD. The EPA estimate is 18/24 mpg for both models.
