Used 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for SaleNationwide

Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter a good car?

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a strong choice if you want a van that combines serious utility with a more polished driving experience than many rivals. It offers an unusually versatile layout for commercial use, with a sliding cargo door wide enough for a standard pallet, rear doors that swing a full 270 degrees, and the lowest step-in height of any competitor. It also stands out for a cabin that feels more like an SUV than a work van, plus a comfortable ride and pleasant driving dynamics that make long days behind the wheel easier.

For you, that means the Sprinter makes the most sense if you value configurability, cargo practicality, and road manners in the same package. The tradeoff is that it is still a work-focused diesel van, so ownership can be less forgiving if maintenance has been neglected. 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter reliable?

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has a practical, well-rounded design, but its reliability picture is shaped by known diesel-related trouble spots. The diesel emissions system and related components, including the EGR valve and the DPF, are common problem areas, and those repairs can become expensive quickly. Rust can also be an issue on older examples, so condition matters a lot.

If you are considering one, you should assume that long-term ownership risk rises quickly when maintenance history is incomplete or deferred. A well-kept example can still make sense, but neglected trucks can turn into costly projects.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter?

At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a full vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic who knows diesel vans. Pay close attention to the diesel emissions system, including the EGR valve and DPF, since those repairs can be expensive. You should also inspect carefully for rust, especially on older examples, because condition can vary widely from one van to the next.

Should I buy a 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

The bottom line: The 2016 Sprinter is a good fit if you want the second-generation van’s blend of utility, comfort, and configurability, especially if you can verify strong maintenance and clean history. If you are price-sensitive, a nearby year may give you more options to compare, but you should still put condition and service records ahead of small year-to-year differences.
