Brand new this year in the H2 lineup is the 2005 Hummer H2 SUT, short for sport utility truck, and basically the same as the SUV, but with a portion of the cargo area uncovered pickup-style. It uses the same 6.0-liter V8 engine that gets 325-hp and 365 lb-ft of torque, matched to a 4-speed automatic. Full-time AWD with low range gearing and a locking rear differential, a 10-inch ground clearance, and standard skid plates make it the most effective and capable off-roader out there. The small open cargo bed is three feet long, but extends to six feet when a Midgate wall is removed and the rear seats folded down. A power rear window also rolls down. A roof rack and trailer hitch are standard, enabling the 2005 H2 SUT to tow 6700 pounds.

Like the SUV, the 2005 H2 SUT comes with ABS brakes, dual front airbags, traction control, foglights, automatic headlights, and auto-dimming mirrors. Because it has the open cargo bed, there is no option for a third row, like you find in the SUV, so the SUT only seats four or five. It is just as well equipped as its sibling, however, with heated leather seats, power front seats, a CD player, wheel-mounted controls, and OnStar. Rear passengers also get heated seats and their own audio controls.

The 2005 H2 SUT is a bit of an experiment for Hummer, and its small cargo bed is evidence that it's dipping its toe slowly into the pickup market. Drivers report a somewhat harsh ride and terrible fuel economy as the biggest downsides, but none of that seems to matter when compared to the immense power, off-road performance, style, and safety of the luxury sport utility truck.
